Haridwar’s Maa Gayatri Offset Printers, a sister concern of The Hindustan Offset Printers, started its digital portfolio with the installation of a Jetsci Colornovo UV Inkjet digital label production press from Monotech Systems. Indian Printer & Publisher recently visited the plant, which has been operational for six years. The unit is equipped with several other presses, making the company’s transition towards digital more convenient.

Hindustan Offset started operations in 1997 as a commercial printing enterprise – providing instruction manuals, posters, bills, and all types of printing on paper by offset presses. It supplies to Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka and other parts of India along with some exports. Along with the ColorNovo press, Maa Gayatri Offset Printers has presses from Mark Andy, MultiTech, Konica Minolta, a Komori L-426, and a Heidelberg offset press.

The Colornovo UV Inkjet Digital Label production press installed at the Maa Gayatri Offset Printers plant utilizes UV inkjet and a fully servo-driven modular web control system. It can print and deliver at high speeds of 50 mpm with an output quality of 600×600 dpi.

The press is equipped with CMYK+ White and Orange UV inkjet, having inter-color LED pinning, chill drum UV curing, corona treatment, web cleaner, spot registered flexo, cold foil/lamination, 27-inches semi/full rotary die-cut, slitting and dual rewind, and RIP solution for fast ripping, accurate color matching and reproduction.

Pradeep Bhatia, founder and managing director of both companies said, “We can see a surge in the demand for short runs and quick turnarounds in printing, and digital is the best way to meet those demands economically and effectively. The Jetsci Colornovo is an essential component of our production, mainly due to the premium look and feel of its output. Its production matches the Pantone and has helped reduce our downtime significantly.”

According to Bhatia, the focus on short-run digital printing is growing. “There is no denying that the digital landscape is rapidly expanding. The conventional technology is suited to bulk jobs, which are decreasing in the market. Before the pandemic, customers only wanted to get their job done. However, they are more curious about the technology and how it can add more value. Jetsci’s digital press is an ideal solution for short and medium-run length label production. The variable data and security printing are the additional advantages of the machine,” he said.

“We are surrounded by pharma companies comprising most of our label jobs.  We can print multiple job types in a day due to the versatility of Colornovo. With a high capacity the press has enabled us to provide to our customer with a quicker turnaround time.” He added.
