According to the press statement, the main highlight at booth no C-45 would be Pixeljet POWERPRO 3.2 M UV LED Roll to Roll Printer with RICOH GEN6 printhead, which was launched by the company in Media Expo 2019, New Delhi. Pixeljet POWERPRO is a dedicated roll-to-roll UV LED-curable printer, which comes in a six-color and a four-color plus white version, handles a broad scope of flexible media for indoor and outdoor applications. It is equipped with a new generation RICOH GEN-6 printhead that takes printing to the next level. The POWERPRO is equipped with UV LED lamps that enable the user to print on a wide media mix and to save energy, costs, and time. The four-color plus white version stands out by its ability to print white in different modes, improving the opacity of the printed material as well as increasing color contrast and readability.

The Pixeljet 3218 RMO is a high-speed UV Hybrid printer with an LED UV curable inkjet system that offers the capability of printing a large size on a rigid as well as soft media. It is idle for short to high-level production of multiple jobs with a variety of sized media. It also offers media edge-to-edge printing that eliminates the need for extra finishing step, saving time and money.

With the help of the multilayer printing feature, the Pixeljet UV hybrid printer prints several colors and white ink layers in on run. The company claims this as a workhorse that can deliver printing speed of up to 450 square feet in an hour. This printer delivers exceptional print quality on a wide variety of indoor and outdoor media such as corrugated boards, plastics, acrylic, and glass. Pixeljet miniRTR is a 6 feet UV LED Roll to Roll printer equipped with Xaar printhead that comes in a six-color and a four-color plus white and plus varnish version. It claims to handle a broad scope of flexible media for indoor and outdoor applications. The miniRTR is equipped with UV LED lamps that enable the user to print on a comprehensive media mix and to save energy, costs, and time. One key feature of the printer is its four-color plus white varnish version that enables to print white color in different modes, improving the opacity of the printed material as well as increasing color contrast and readability. The Pixeljet miniRTR has been designed for the printers who are willing to move from Eco-Solvent printing and go for UV printing with a limited budget. With miniRTR, printers can have the leverage of offering digital embellishment with embossing effect and more too.

Pixeljet UVmini is an entry-level UV flatbed printer equipped with RICOH printhead, and it is capable of accepting a media thickness of 70 millimeters and configured as CMYK + WV. This offers the flexibility of generating numerous applications for photo albums, stationery, gifts, novelty items, indoor and outdoor applications.

2023 promises an interesting ride for print in India

Indian Printer and Publisher founded in 1979 is the oldest B2B trade publication in the multi-platform and multi-channel IPPGroup. While the print and packaging industries have been resilient in the past 33 months since the pandemic lockdown of 25 March 2020, the commercial printing and newspaper industries have yet to recover their pre-Covid trajectory.

The fragmented commercial printing industry faces substantial challenges as does the newspaper industry. While digital short-run printing and the signage industry seem to be recovering a bit faster, ultimately their growth will also be moderated by the progress of the overall economy. On the other hand book printing exports are doing well but they too face several supply-chain and logistics challenges.

The price of publication papers including newsprint has been high in the past year while availability is diminished by several mills shutting down their publication paper and newsprint machines in the past four years. Indian paper mills are also exporting many types of paper and have raised prices for Indian printers. To some extent, this has helped in the recovery of the digital printing industry with its on-demand short-run and low-wastage paradigm.

Ultimately digital print and other digital channels will help print grow in a country where we are still far behind in our paper and print consumption and where digital is a leapfrog technology that will only increase the demand for print in the foreseeable future. For instance, there is no alternative to a rise in textbook consumption but this segment will only reach normality in the next financial year beginning on 1 April 2023.

Thus while the new normal is a moving target and many commercial printers look to diversification, we believe that our target audiences may shift and change. Like them, we will also have to adapt with agility to keep up with their business and technical information needs.
