Electronics For Imaging and Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe have  announced two new EFI Fiery digital front ends (DFEs) designed to drive the AccurioPress line of digital presses from Konica Minolta. Running on the latest EFI Fiery FS200 Pro software platform and Windows 10, the new EFI Fiery IC-313 external DFE offers superior performance and color management. It also supports the Konica Minolta AccurioPress family of production color digital presses, including the C6100, C6085, C2070, C2070P, and C2060.

The second new offering, the EFI Fiery IC-315 DFE, also runs on the Fiery FS200 Pro software platform. This powerful server is the first DFE available from Konica Minolta running on EFI’s new NX premium hardware platform.

“As we bring our new AccurioPress C6100 and C6085 digital colour presses to market, we are pleased to include the latest high-performance Fiery NX hardware platform with the Fiery IC-315 to enable customers to get the most out of their investments,” said Karl-Friedrich Edenhuizen, product manager, Professional Printing Division Konica Minolta. “For less aggressive print environments, users can choose the Fiery IC-313, which also supports the AccurioPress C2070, C2070P, and C2060 models and features most of the same great Fiery capabilities.”

As with all Fiery DFEs, these new products include Fiery  Command WorkStation, an industry-leading job management solution that allows print professionals to manage multiple printers or an entire shop from a single point. In addition, the Fiery IC-315 DFE model has been certified by Adobe® to satisfy Mercury RIP Architecture standards, ensuring maximum efficiency in resource utilisation. It also comes standard with EFI Fiery HyperRIP, a faster job-processing technology that can RIP up to four jobs simultaneously. HyperRIP also features a RUSH RIP mode that opens up a fifth parallel processor to handle rush jobs when all four processors are busy.

Free Fiery DFE training from EFI, including the  Learning@EFI  site, will give AccurioPress C6100 and C6085 customers information to ensure they can use all the Fiery product features to the fullest extent possible.

“EFI and Konica Minolta continue to work closely together as Konica Minolta adds more speed and functionality to its AccurioPress line for customers wishing to run their businesses as profitably as possible,” said John Henze, vice president of Fiery marketing, EFI. “These new Fiery DFEs ensure customers are able to achieve the utmost in quality and productivity without compromise.”

2023 promises an interesting ride for print in India

Indian Printer and Publisher founded in 1979 is the oldest B2B trade publication in the multi-platform and multi-channel IPPGroup. While the print and packaging industries have been resilient in the past 33 months since the pandemic lockdown of 25 March 2020, the commercial printing and newspaper industries have yet to recover their pre-Covid trajectory.

The fragmented commercial printing industry faces substantial challenges as does the newspaper industry. While digital short-run printing and the signage industry seem to be recovering a bit faster, ultimately their growth will also be moderated by the progress of the overall economy. On the other hand book printing exports are doing well but they too face several supply-chain and logistics challenges.

The price of publication papers including newsprint has been high in the past year while availability is diminished by several mills shutting down their publication paper and newsprint machines in the past four years. Indian paper mills are also exporting many types of paper and have raised prices for Indian printers. To some extent, this has helped in the recovery of the digital printing industry with its on-demand short-run and low-wastage paradigm.

Ultimately digital print and other digital channels will help print grow in a country where we are still far behind in our paper and print consumption and where digital is a leapfrog technology that will only increase the demand for print in the foreseeable future. For instance, there is no alternative to a rise in textbook consumption but this segment will only reach normality in the next financial year beginning on 1 April 2023.

Thus while the new normal is a moving target and many commercial printers look to diversification, we believe that our target audiences may shift and change. Like them, we will also have to adapt with agility to keep up with their business and technical information needs.

Our 2023 media kit is ready, and it is the right time to take stock and reconnect with your potential markets and customers. Print is the glue for the growth of liberal education, new industry, and an emerging economy. We seek your participation in what promises to be an interesting ride.
