Kajal Anand, managing director at Debon Herbals taps the market using HP technology

Kajal Anand, managing director, had humble beginnings when she first started off with Debon Herbals. Although the journey was laden with many upheavals during the initial years, Anand, with her unflinching passion and dedication, built a thriving empire and established the brand.

During its formative years, Debon Herbals concentrated on producing a single variant of shampoo with different SKUs. However, they soon realized the importance of having multiple variants to retain a stronghold over the market. The required quantity of labels on shampoo containers was short, and it couldn’t be met with the conventional print process. Another concern was maintenance of inventory and management of different SKUs that involved huge investments.

Around this time, HP Indigo’s (WS4500) installation at Janus International served as a clue to Debon Herbals. They fulfilled the short-run quantity of variants at an affordable cost and exceptional quality. With the digital press, they printed the required quantity only when they needed, thus enabling them to manage the inventory efficiently and throw more focus on enhancing the look and feel of the pack. Today, Debon Herbals supplies more than 40 products including face cream, lotion and shampoo in the personal grooming segment.

Talking about the various changes incorporated in the packaging, Anand continues, “Earlier, we used to fill shampoo in transparent bottles with a common design printed on the label for different SKUs. Users would choose the variant depending upon the color of shampoo visible in the clear bottles.” The company would specify the variant name by hand across the labels for nearly 15,000 quantity. With the young generation stepping into the business, Debon Herbals changed the logo and graphics of the product. The digital solutions offered by HP enabled Debon Herbals to supply superior labels that made them more stylish and economical. With the emerging trends, the product is now filled in the white opaque HDPE bottle. “Although the new label lends a premium look to the pack, it lacks the transparency it used to don earlier,” she adds.

Debon Herbals willingly explored, provided the prototype that contributed to their growth. With HP, the promise of inventory management was delivered and Debon Herbals was equipped with the ability to print “what you need,” “when you need” and “how you need”. Debon Herbals is an excellent example of how digital printing can lead to operational efficiency and maximum use of resources. The solution offered by HP’s digital press ensured to meet the color gamut through tight registration and dot-size control while managing the inventories so as to align the themes on-shelf with current animated features. For instance, some labels for export vary in terms of text and color, which is easy to manage with digital solutions. Debon Herbals plans to supply their products with the individual logo and brand name of the beauty salon and spa printed on the label with the help of HP solutions.

Labels and packaging play an instrumental role in the sale of a product. Good packaging coupled with a well thought-out campaign can do wonders to a brand. HP Inc. is leading the innovation in packaging and labels, and enabling brands across the globe to create path-breaking success stories. Many Indian brands are harnessing the power of digital printing for reaching out to their customers and ensuring a great overall customer experience. As consumers become more individualistic, it’s becoming increasingly important for every brand to multiply the number of SKUs to produce more and more personalized and relevant products for their customers. Debon Herbals is one such example of a success story. With HP Indigo, brands can maximize product visibility and consumer appeal with eye-catching packaging. As long runs of packaging become shorter and there’s a need for more professional looking packaging, HP Indigo plays a critical role in achieving this.
