“In the last year, we have sold over 20 machines in the short-run book print segments to a variety of printing solutions such as Atexco, Founder, Monotech Knozzlejet, Miyakoshi, and others. There is more realization now that the post-press solution needs to have the agility to turn around the job in under one minute. Otherwise, the inkjet print provider will be competing with sheetfed printing, as a quicker and cheaper option; and may not have a value proposition to offer. A conventional binder takes 15 minutes to change from one job to another – and if you have 20 books to handle, then five hours will be spent only on make-ready,” says Suresh Nair, leader for Short-Run Solutions at Bindwel.
