SNJ Enterprise in Pune has added an EFI Pro 32r+ LED roll2roll UV digital inkjet signage printer. This is the second installation of the EFI Pro 32r+ in India. Poonam and Vishal Telkar, directors at SNJ Enterprise have worked very hard since 2008, to grow their signage business with indoor and outdoor branding solutions for retail, FMCG automobile, petroleum, banking, promotional, and event management.

SNJ currently operates from a specialized 3,500 square foot well-equipped workshop in the city with Poonam Telkar handling the technology and CAPEX. She is continuously researching and studying the latest technology to improve production and solutions for her customers. SNJ is also a 3M endorsed graphics manufacturer.

SNJ Enterprise has purchased several inkjet printers from Arrow Digital since 2017 when it installed a Jetrix KX5 flatbed printer. In 2019 the company introduced the first GS3200 EFI Vutek 10-foot wide hybrid printer in Pune. On the recent EFI Pro 32r+ roll-to-roll printer, Telkar adds, “We are extremely happy with this latest addition and have always appreciated the support provided by Arrow. Additional optional features of EFI Pro 32r+

To further enhance the roll-to-roll printing, the new and improved high-speed LED SuperRange UV inks which are Greenguard certified and give the best color gamut to the EFI Pro32r+. The printer’s CMYK and white uses Genuine EFI Inks and are eligible for the 3M MCS Warranty for proven, guaranteed quality and outdoor durability on fleet and vehicle graphics and other applications.

The printer’s large selection of optional features gives users the ability to drive greater efficiency for faster, turnkey production. Optional inline slitters, automatic blackouts, back-to-back printing, iPhone application are key additions that help users improve throughput by reducing or eliminating altogether the need to handle printed jobs on separate finishing tables.

It includes EFI’s robust built-in Fiery Pro Server Core digital front end, featuring FAST RIP acceleration technology, plus RIP and print-on-demand functionality or the ability to print pre-ripped files at the printer interface. All these features make the EFI Pro32r+ an ideal solution for printing billboards, building wraps, POP, exhibition graphics, fleet graphics, window graphics and much more. 2023 promises an interesting ride for print in India

Indian Printer and Publisher founded in 1979 is the oldest B2B trade publication in the multi-platform and multi-channel IPPGroup. While the print and packaging industries have been resilient in the past 33 months since the pandemic lockdown of 25 March 2020, the commercial printing and newspaper industries have yet to recover their pre-Covid trajectory.

The fragmented commercial printing industry faces substantial challenges as does the newspaper industry. While digital short-run printing and the signage industry seem to be recovering a bit faster, ultimately their growth will also be moderated by the progress of the overall economy. On the other hand book printing exports are doing well but they too face several supply-chain and logistics challenges.

The price of publication papers including newsprint has been high in the past year while availability is diminished by several mills shutting down their publication paper and newsprint machines in the past four years. Indian paper mills are also exporting many types of paper and have raised prices for Indian printers. To some extent, this has helped in the recovery of the digital printing industry with its on-demand short-run and low-wastage paradigm.

Ultimately digital print and other digital channels will help print grow in a country where we are still far behind in our paper and print consumption and where digital is a leapfrog technology that will only increase the demand for print in the foreseeable future. For instance, there is no alternative to a rise in textbook consumption but this segment will only reach normality in the next financial year beginning on 1 April 2023.

Thus while the new normal is a moving target and many commercial printers look to diversification, we believe that our target audiences may shift and change. Like them, we will also have to adapt with agility to keep up with their business and technical information needs.
