HP India displayed the Indigo 7600 and Indigo 5600 at the Consumer Electronic Imaging Fair 2014 held in Mumbai from 9 to 14 January, 2014.
Talking about the event, said that being the biggest photo show in the country, 99% of its visitors are photographers.
However, Appadurai added that HP has used the event not only to show case the two Indigo presses but has also invited its customers to display their expertise to visitors at the event.
HP also organized workshops for photographers at the fair to help the photography professionals get maximum value from their work.
“Beyond the presses, these are the two highlights at our stand at the event,” Appadurai said. Regarding business aspect at the event, Appadurai said that the company expects to close deals for about a dozen Indigo presses.
Expressing his opinion about digital printing segment, he said that it was no longer a niche. “With a machine like Indigo 10000 coming in the market, we think the short run market would be completely redefined,” he said.
On commercial printing business as a whole, Appadurai opined that the year 2013 has been a tough year when volumes shrank considerably. “A lot of people would like to forget last year,”
Appadurai, country manager, Indigo and Inkjet solutions HP he said. According to him, chances of volumes going back to levels seen in 2011 or even 2012 are very slim.
“Commercial printing industry has seen some fundamental changes. For example, annual report printing has become total digitised, a development which is irreversible,” he said.
According to Appadurai, the industry will see a lot of consolidation as we move forward into the future as the pie is shrinking.
“Commercial printers will have to evolve and become marketing service providers rather than just printers,” he pointed.
For HP, the advent of digitisation in printing is a very positive development. Appadurai emphasised that as devices like iPad and eReaders become popular, print runs will become shorter, which is good for HP. “We love it,” he said
