Guwahati-based City Offset has expanded its portfolio by installing a Ricoh Pro C7200x digital color production press from Monotech Systems. Based out of Adabari, a busy commercial hub in Guwahati, City Offset has been a provider of commercial printing needs for Assam, a few Northeastern states, and nearby industrial clusters for the last couple of decades.

The commercial printer with a background in offset printing offers books (short-run government books), brochures, business cards, paper labels, and non-tear labels. The printer utilizes 4-color and 5-color web offset presses from Naph Graphics, a manufacturer of web offset presses and slitter rewinders, with a capacity of 3 lakh prints per day.

Geographically, we are pretty much confined to Guwahati. However, we have clients from across Assam and some neighboring Northeastern states, including Nagaland,” says Mrinal Chatterjee, proprietor of City Offset. “We attempt to provide our customers with complete end-to-end printing solutions using diverse technologies. We added the Ricoh Pro C7200x to augment our capacity.”

The Ricoh Pro C7200x digital production press prints a wider range of jobs with double-sided, oversized printing up to 700 mm in length and on heavy-weight stocks up to 360 gsm. It is a 4-color machine with fifth color printing capability, offering an increasing range of special colors, including white (available in a single pass), clear, invisible red, and various neon options.

The machine portfolio of City Offset consists of a line of mini offset presses, digital multifunction printers (MFP), and the recently installed Ricoh Pro. “When it comes to digital printing, we used to run digital production presses from other brands. After installing the new press, we rely on it for every digital task. It has been amazing to intensify digital printing to a new level,” Chatterjee says.

He says the advanced features of the press such as the fifth color station is what he will have to further explore to go beyond the basic CMYK printing. Likewise, this press has many other unconventional features such as productivity, flexibility, speed, and print resolution. Featuring the fifth color station, the Ricoh Pro C7200x can pull off vivid color printing, closely comparable to offset quality. This station is designed for printing neon colors for a high-impact blend with the usual CMYK. “We were impressed with all the features of the production press,” he says.

The Ricoh Pro C7200x can produce print detail in industry-leading resolution of 2400×4800 dpi on a broad range of light and heavyweight stocks up to 360 gsm. “We are now capable of improving print quality and speed following the purchase of the Ricoh press from Monotech,” Chatterjee adds. “The Ricoh Pro C7200x is a high-speed digital color production press, engineered to run at the maximum speed of up to 95 ppm (pages per minute) with an expansive 16,200-sheet maximum paper capacity for longer runs.”

Backed by a team of more than 25 printing staff, including graphic designers, DTP operators, machine men, and others, City Offset is optimistic about what it can offer to its customers on the digital front using the new Ricoh Pro C7200x.
