In our last interaction, Komori India’s president Jun Sudo mentioned the ratio of packaging machines to the overall capacity building in India may increase. For its packaging segment plans in FY 26-27, Sudo said that packaging continues to be a key growth driver for Komori. However he added, “To the company’s surprise, the commercial and publication segment has not slowed down as we had feared as in last year’s projections.”

“Volume-wise, the ratio of packaging machines will likely remain similar to the current status of around 30% of our total sales but with growing diversity in the portfolio with interests for models such as the entry model Lithrone G 637C, 6-color SRA1 size press with inline coating, and the large format Lithrone G 44 (840 x 1150 mm) Advance series, enabling increased print capacity with ease of operation similar to a B1 press,” stated Sudo.

At Pamex 2026 in Mumbai, Komori showcased the latest additions to its Advance Series, including the Lithrone G44 and GX29 packaging presses, as well as the Lithrone G837P 4-over-4 convertible perfector for commercial and publication printing.

“These models are now gaining traction in the Indian market, supporting printers in becoming more agile and resilient in an increasingly competitive environment. We will also continue to actively promote solutions such as the LP-140 one-over-one dedicated perfector for pharma inserts, user manuals, and educational materials, along with the high-end MBO and H+H folding systems for advanced commercial and pharmaceutical finishing.”

Komori is reinforcing its post-press solutions lineup as part of a holistic production approach, Sudo added, “While these solutions are not developed exclusively for carton processing, they are designed to enhance overall efficiency, consistency and automation across a wide range of applications, including packaging.”

In our previous interaction, just before the festive season last year, Sudo had stated that Komori India aimed to reach 110 new machine imports annually. “The figure of 110 units reflected our medium-term outlook, based on the steady expansion of the new press market in India. Recent import data for FY 2025-26 suggests that the pace may be moderating slightly,” he said.

However, as Komori continues to hold the highest market share in new press sales, its installed customer base is expanding rapidly, and customer expectations are also rising, Sudo explained. “To address this, we are continuously strengthening our service organization – both in scale and quality – to ensure faster installations, smoother commissioning and higher customer satisfaction.”

Komori’s continued focus on print capacity decentralization across India

Komori India successfully reached tier-II and tier-III cities in the last few years with installations in Agra, Jammu, Jaipur, Kochi, Lucknow, Rajkot, Haridwar, Karnal, Meerut, Thiruvananthapuram, Tiruppur, Sonepat, Guwahati, Nashik, Surat, and Vadodara.

Sudo noted that the company does see continued opportunity across emerging regional clusters as printing capacity decentralizes further. “Although the demand is becoming more distributed across the country our approach is to support growth wherever sustainable business potential exists rather than focus on any single region.”

“Our upgraded Enthrone 29 B2-size “G” (Green) series entry-level press, along with the Lithrone G37 SRA1 size press – which has now joined the Advance Series – continue to play a critical role in this transition,” Sudo shared, adding that “these machines offer excellent value for money, eco-friendly benefits, and a strong competitive edge, making new equipment a viable and attractive option for regional printers looking to expand and modernize their businesses.”

On infrastructure or service center investments planned for remote regions like the North East or Deep South, Sudo observed that Komori India’s current priority is the expansion of its Delhi parts and service centers, along with the establishment of enhanced training functions. “These initiatives are scheduled for completion during FY 2026-27 and are aimed at systematically improving our nationwide service capabilities, including support for more remote regions.”

Komori presses are equipped with advanced operating systems and quality management tools such as the PDC-SX spectrophotometer, which help to standardize makeready, reduce waste, and shorten setup times, the Komori India president said as far as maintaining a competitive ROI for customers in light of the fluctuation of global shipping and manufacturing costs.

“Our priority is to ensure that customers fully benefit from these features to enhance productivity, reduce energy and material consumption, and improve overall yield. Equally important is our focus on training operators, promoting process standardization, and expanding our K-Supply range of press chemicals and consumables to support consistent, cost-efficient production,” he concluded.
