Beijing Zhongke Printing and Goss Graphic Systems (China) Co, Ltd (GGSC) recently signed a strategic cooperation project for a book printing press with a total investment of more than CNY 100 million (approximately Euro 13 million). A first in China, the M-700s intelligent demonstration production line for book printing, will be located in Beijing Zhongke. Experts in the Chinese printing industry believe that this new project will begin to challenge the traditional book printing market in the country.

The Wisprint M-700 is a highly automated mid-range commercial web press for short to medium run-length market designed for book and commercial operations with the high print quality and a maximum rated speed of 40,000 impressions an hour. The highly automated web offset solution for Beijing Zhongke will enable high-quality and efficient book production, rapid market expansion, and continuous performance improvement. The M-700s will facilitate a move towards a more intelligent printing facility and comprehensively realize the integration of printing, folding, page inserting, bundling, stacking, and other processes.

The Chinese book printing market has undergone rapid changes in recent times. With new expectations for improved quality, faster turn-around, and a reduction in labor costs, traditional book printing on sheet-fed offset presses is unable to meet the increasing demands and higher specifications expected by publishers.

Beijing Zhongke Printing is a leading printing company in the country and a subsidiary of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. After an in-depth study of the book production process, the company decided to move to web offset printing and also to automate and integrate this part of the process with the post-press and binding processes. According to Peng Yong, GGSC general manager, “The M-700 series is the highest specification option from GGSC in the book printing sector. I believe this new printing solution will elevate Beijing Zhongke Printing to new heights and strengthen its leading position in China in the national book printing field.”
