Delhi-based CGSASP is the sole distributor of various overseas brands in India such as Hunkeler, CITO, Tresu Group and several others. In the print finishing segment, CGSASP represents Marcello Strada and Peleman Industries. The company recently tied up with Peleman to bring in the Vpaper Tower to India. The Vpaper Tower is designed to convert two-sided printed sheets to layflat pages, particularly for digitally printed photobooks.
Most of the layflat solutions in the market are expensive and require single-sided printed sheets to be glued back-to-back. The Vpaper Tower uses a creasing system to make layflat books out of sheets that are printed on both sides. With Peleman Industries, along with its layflat solution, CGSASP has also come up with binding and foiling solutions. Over the last two years, the company has been focusing on expanding its product portfolio.
“With layflat, we’re trying to come up with two different kinds of solutions. One is layflat with adhesive sheets in between, which is a perfect solution for the photobook segment. The other one is with the Vpaper Tower, which makes any book layflat. Peleman has a patent for this machine and it is their product. We’re trying to market this product aggressively but it’s taking some time as the product is new. I think it will take some time for the people to explore the capabilities of this machine and realize the importance of layflat solution in India. This technology comes with a marginal increase in cost for the equipment capex,” says Kunal Gandhi, director of CGSASP.
Hunkeler digital finishing solutions
CGSASP has for many years pioneered the automation of paper processing in India with Hunkeler, which develops and supplies innovative solutions for continuous feed paper processing throughout the print and particularly the digital print process. These are modular systems that present the paper to the digital press and process the printed paper web with folding, perforation and cutting through to the binding system and even logistics. These systems are made in close partnership with leading digital press manufacturers throughout the world. See our article ‘The Future of Book Printing’
Hunkeler waste evacuation solution
Best known for paper processing systems, Hunkeler Systeme is an automated waste evacuation company that was set up three years ago. The company provides customized waste evacuation systems for the packaging and graphic arts industry. CGSASP is providing these solutions in the evacuation logistics segment for substrates such as paper, cardboard, foils and general waste to ensure management of waste.
In the digital and graphics industry, the paper waste and dust is collected at the collection point of the finishing machine and is transported within a closed piping system towards the waste evacuation system. In most of these solutions, the output is compact, stacked bails. The dusty air is filtered in the jetfilter system and the clean air can either be transported back to the production room or outside the premises. In India, CGSASP has installed these systems at ITC and The Hindu. It has also closed a deal for the waste evacuation system with Mathrubhumi. The company hopes to close several deals in the corrugated industry by the end of 2019.
CGSASP’s specialized solutions for packaging
“About two years ago, we thought of entering the corrugated packaging segment. In this segment, we’ve observed a huge influx of Bobst and EMBA FPG machinery. A number of consumables are required for these machines and thus we decided to enter this segment with doctor blades, cushion mounting tapes and pre-stitched carriers among other consumables that are used in this specialized field,” says Gandhi. The company is also planning to come up with automounting machines for the corrugated industry.
According to Gandhi, “The packaging industry is growing in India. In fact, the growth figures are quite phenomenal. I see digital packaging also growing with an increase in short runs, which is a good sign for the industry.” In 2018, CGSAP grew by approximately 20% and witnessed an increase in the sale of corrugated equipment. In 2019, CGSASP plans to consolidate and will try to optimize the marketing and sale of brands and products in its current portfolio. Gandhi concluded by saying that the company is not looking to add any new products in the next one year at least.
