HP, a global technology leader, unveiled its latest large-format printing portfolio for the photography and graphics segments at Photo Video Asia 2026 in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, where it showcased solutions engineered to support businesses from entry-level operations to high-end production environments.
HP highlighted its new printer alongside its established Z-series, including the Z6 and Z9 models, offering a comprehensive spectrum of options, from 4-color pigment systems to advanced 6-color and 9-color configurations, with sizes from 11 inches to 44 inches.
The HP DesignJet Z6 series supports a broad array of specialty media formats, such as canvas, glossy paper, matte finishes, and luster media, making it suitable for a wide variety of commercial and artistic applications.
To ensure premium, color-accurate output, particularly for photographic and high-detail graphic reproductions, the system integrates built-in Adobe PostScript software. This integration delivers enhanced precision and color accuracy straight out of the box.

Positioned as an affordable door-opener for small businesses, entry-level studios, and regional print providers, the newly launched DesignJet XT870 introduces a versatile design tailored to streamline multi-format photo production. The printer features an integrated A3+ multi-sheet tray combined with a roll feed capable of handling media up to 24 inches wide.
This allows operators to seamlessly switch between passport photos or standard A4/A3 prints and larger photo enlargements without maintaining separate devices. Utilizing pigment-based inks, the XT870 delivers durable, water-resistant, and scratch-resistant outputs. It has an integrated media basket and floor stand to minimize material waste and cut upfront equipment costs.
Vitesh K Sharma, head – large format printing business, HP India, explained that powering the device’s technical capabilities is HP’s high-definition nozzle architecture (HDNA). Using HP Thermal Inkjet technology, HDNA delivers dual-drop sizes to achieve exceptional print clarity, crisp detail, and exact precision.
Streamlining maintenance and reducing inventory complexity, the system utilizes three universal printheads. Users can stock a single printhead part number that functions across any slot, eliminating the need to maintain separate replacements for different print positions.
“India’s photography industry is changing, and behind that change are thousands of photographers and photo printing businesses looking to grow, serve their customers better and create new opportunities. As demand grows for professional prints across formats and applications, the right printing capabilities can make a difference to how quickly businesses can respond and the range of services they can offer,” he said.
“The HP DesignJet XT870 strengthens our portfolio as a more accessible entry-level solution, combining the quality and reliability HP is known for with affordable original HP supplies and a simple, intuitive workflow. It enables businesses to bring more printing capabilities in-house and expand their offerings such as photographs, posters, glossy prints and canvas. Together with our HP DesignJet Z6 and Z9⁺ solutions, we offer a portfolio to support customers from their first step into professional photo printing through to more advanced requirements,” he said.
The HP DesignJet XT870 24-inch printer is designed to simplify everyday printing, with multi-size printing through an integrated input tray that enables users to work across different print sizes (A4 to 24X36) without manually switching between roll and sheet media. The printer features HP Click, HP’s intuitive print solution that simplifies print preparation and workflow.
With real-print preview, automatic error detection and driverless printing, HP Click helps users streamline the process from preparing a job to sending it to print, reducing manual intervention and saving valuable time. Features such as nesting, drag-and-drop and automatic source selection further simplify everyday printing.
Sharma said HP is targeting a structural shift in the Indian photography market, where demand is decentralizing beyond metropolitan hubs into tier-2, tier-3, and tier-4 cities. Driven by post-pandemic supply chain disruptions and a growing preference for immediate, localized production, smaller studios and framing businesses are adopting affordable in-house printing technology.
“Additionally, changing consumer demographics—highlighted by a young population seeking personalized prints for everyday milestones beyond traditional large-scale wedding albums are opening new commercial avenues for accessible, high-quality photo printing solutions across the region,” he said.
Sustainability is a core focus of the printer’s design. The device is constructed using at least 45% recycled plastic and 10% recycled metal. Operational efficiency is enhanced through automatic on/off scheduling, which can reduce energy consumption by up to 60%, and routine printhead cleaning processes that use up to 95% less ink.
The HP DesignJet XT870 minimizes environmental impact through 100% polystyrene-free packaging and supports responsible disposal by facilitating cartridge recycling via the HP Planet Partners program.
