Journalist, writer and filmmaker Pritish Nandy died on 8 January 2025 at the age of 73. Media reports said Nandy, who was born in Bihar’s Bhagalpur, had a cardiac arrest.

The high-profile editor of The Illustrated Weekly of India, the once-popular English-language weekly news magazine from The Times of India group, Pritish Nandy later launched his media company, Pritish Nandy Communications. In the 1990s, he also hosted The Pritish Nandy Show on Doordarshan.

The Illustrated Weekly of India was also edited by media stalwarts such as Sean Mandy, AS Raman, Khushwant Singh and MV Kamath.

An Wikipedia page on Nandy also mentions him as the publishing director of The Times of India between 1982 and 1991. He was also managing editor of the group and editor and publisher of The Illustrated Weekly of India during its most successful decade.

He was also editor and publisher of The Independent, a newspaper launched by the same group and Filmfare. Nandy was a columnist with The Times of India, Dainik Bhaskar, Divya Bhaskar and Sangbad Pratidin

Nandy was elected to the Rajya Sabha representing Maharashtra, the upper house of the Indian parliament, in July 1998 on a Shiv Sena ticket. He was conferred with the Padma Shri in 1977 for his contributions in Indian literature.
