It is a Spanish treat all the way at this year’s Frankfurt Buchmesse or the Frankfurt Book Fair as it is popularly called. The world’s largest trade fair for books, based on the number of publishing companies represented, the event is taking place from 19 – 23 October 2022.

The who’s who of Spanish literature in Frankfurt

Spain, Frankfurter Buchmesse’s Guest of Honor, is traveling to Frankfurt with a 200-strong delegation of writers and creative people. Among them are Spain’s most exciting literary voices, including Kiko Amat, Cristina Morales, Elizabeth Duval, Rosa Montero, Sara Mesa, and Fernando Aramburu.

The delegation is characterized by strong female voices. A new generation of international authors includes Paloma Chen, Nadia Hafid, and Margaryta Yakovenko. Ada Salas, Ángela Segovia, and Raquel Lanseros, who represent a new form of Spanish poetry, and María Hesse, Núria Tamarit, and Elisa McCausland, who represent the comic genre.

A space designed for stories

The Guest of Honour Pavilion, the heart of the Spanish program at Frankfurter Buchmesse, was designed by the architecture and design studio ENORME from Madrid together with the design team Vitamin. Visitors to the fair can become part of Spanish literature and culture for five days.

The walls in the pavilion fill up like the pages of an oversized book with the words and text fragments that can be heard here during the event, and those words transform into colorful worlds.

The Frankfurter Buchmesse app lists all Spanish exhibitors that are located at the fair. In addition, the ‘Fact Sheet Spain’ provides some more interesting facts and figures about the Spanish Guest of Honor’s appearance.

The Guest of Honour Spain also invites booksellers to a tour of the Guest of Honor Pavilion with “Book Speed Dating”. The tour will be held in English, and Spanish specialties will be served afterward.

Visitors can read about the state of the Spanish book market in the English-language trade magazine Publishing Perspectives, which has summarized the latest report from the Spanish Publishers’ Association.
