Long-standing Fujifilm customer, Wegner in northern Germany, has seen an increase in output, production speeds, and flexibility following its investment in Fujifilm’s Jet Press 750S. Founded in 1985, Bremen-based Wegner is a full-service commercial print business offering digital printing for brochures, booklets, calendars and photobooks for its ever-expanding customer base. The company initially invested in Fujifilm’s flagship B2 inkjet press, the Jet Press 720S in 2015 to support its growing digital work, and following impressive results, upgrade to the Jet Press 750S in August 2019.

Henning Rose, chief executive officer, Wegner explains the key benefits the Jet Press 720S initially brought to his business, “The Jet Press was far more productive and produced much higher quality print work than any machines we had previously owned. We were thoroughly impressed with its B2 format print capabilities and the quantity of work that we were able to produce with it. The investment enabled us to diversify and take on new customers, significantly enhancing our sales. And now the Jet Press 750S – with the same exceptional quality as its predecessor but with higher output and speed – is helping us take things a step further.

We decided to upgrade to the Jet Press 750S to future-proof our business and ensure we remained up-to-date with the latest and most advanced technology available on the market, so it was the natural step for us to take.”

With the Jet Press 750S has been in operation for around seven months, Rose has seen a number of benefits in the product range he offers his customers. “As before, we can print photobooks, calendars, and brochures – but now we can do it on a much broader range of substrates – including very thin and thick materials,” he continues. “The Jet Press 750S has also enabled us to increase our productivity – we can now print over 1,000 more sheets an hour than we could previously. The press is also much easier for our operators to use and the striking, sleek, black exterior of the press looks great on our production floor.”

Rose is also convinced that the Jet Press 750S has opened new opportunities for Wegner. “It offers the highest quality that can be achieved with digital printing,” he explains. “We’ve been able to move over a range of jobs that we would typically have produced on offset, which we now achieve in a much shorter time frame with the same high-quality finish.

Even our customers have commented on how impressed they have been with the increase in our speed of delivery. This is largely due to the post-press process being quicker, as the improved drying of sheets means we can cut and bind them in less time. This added flexibility and speed means that we often receive a request today and deliver the final product tomorrow. For this reason, I am confident that the Jet Press 750S will not only help us to stay ahead of both current and future market trends but ensure that we continue to keep our customers happy and adapt to their needs.”

Rose acknowledges that consistent levels of print quality are also very impressive. “The consistency of the work we are able to achieve with the Jet Press 750S is unmatched. We are able to easily replicate the same quality and colors for our customers, thanks to the press’s extensive Pantone library and color gamut. For example, we had one customer ask us to produce a sales booklet in December and then requested the exact same booklet to be reproduced a few months later. The customer was stunned by the consistency in quality and color accuracy. Even we are still sometimes amazed by what this machine can achieve!”

Wegner is now also able to enter new markets with the Jet Press 750S – some innovative thinking has helped the company produce point of sale wobblers for packaging: “The Jet Press’s ability to print onto synthetic substrates has been a game-changer for us. We use a special pre-coating and UV post-varnish process, so we can operate the Jet Press at the same speed as our other sheetfed operations and the quality produced is exactly the same. So, we’ve now made inroads into another market with a combination of Fujifilm’s expertise and our own.”

Rose is also keen to point out the exceptional support he has received from the Fujifilm team. “The help and continuous support we had throughout the sales and installation process was excellent, as it was with the previous Jet Press and the products before that. The Jet Press installation was extremely quick and Fujifilm is always on hand to provide any support when necessary.”

Taro Aoki, head of Digital Press Solutions at Fujifilm Graphic Systems Europe says, “Working with Wegner over the years, we have seen the company grow and create some outstanding work for its customers. We’re delighted to see the extra benefits the Jet Press 750S has brought them since its installation, and we are excited to see what new sectors they can grow into in the coming years.”
