Newspaper production plants already track their performance. However, meaningful improvement comes from comparing results with industry peers and similar operations.
Wan-Ifra has opened registration for its Newspaper Production KPI Benchmarking project, an industry-wide initiative that lets newspaper printing plants compare their performance with peers and similar facilities.
The project evaluates each plant against six key indicators: plant/production efficiency, overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), energy efficiency, newsprint waste percentage, ink mileage and web break ratio. Wan-Ifra says the aim is to help production teams see where their plant stands, identify performance gaps and decide where to focus improvement efforts.
Each participating site will receive a plant KPI scorecard, an anonymized peer comparison and a final benchmarking summary. Wan-Ifra says plant-level data will stay confidential and participants’ identities will not be disclosed in peer comparisons.
Registration closes on 30 October 2026, and data collection begins 1 November 2026. Data review and clarification will be completed on 5 December 2026 and the analysis and final report will be issued on 10 January 2027.
Plants interested in participating can contact Prabhu Natrajan at prabhu.n@Wan-Ifra.org.
