Kolkata-based Itech Enterprise has strengthened its bookbinding capabilities by installing a Bindwel Blue Chip perfect binding machine. Founded in 2015 by Sanjay Auddy, the company serves a diverse customer base across books, educational publishing, commercial print and institutional markets, with binding now emerging as an increasingly important part of its operations.
Operating from a 1,200-square-foot facility with a five-member team, Itech Enterprise handles a wide variety of paper grades and produces books for seven to ten customers. During the peak season, the company’s production can reach approximately 5,000 books a day.
Before investing in the Bindwel system, the company relied on a Rimsim single-clamp machine, but Auddy says quality and speed limitations increasingly became a challenge. At the same time, growing demand from customers and publishers for faster, more integrated services pushed the company to consider bringing binding operations in-house.
“Customer and publisher demand for in-house binding was the main reason we started looking for a perfect binding system,” said Auddy.
The company installed the Bindwel Blue Chip in December 2025. According to Auddy, the decision was influenced by Bindwel’s service support and the availability of spare parts, two factors that can affect productivity for smaller and mid-sized bookbinding operations. “We chose Bindwel because of its service support and spare parts availability,” Auddy says. “For us, these are very important considerations because machine uptime directly affects our ability to meet customer commitments.”
The Blue Chip has helped Itech Enterprise increase both production capacity and its customer base. Auddy says the improvement has been visible across several operational parameters, including speed, consistency, quality, output, turnaround time and labour efficiency. “After installing the machine, we have increased the quantity of books we can produce, and the number of customers has also increased,” he says.
The cutter, side-gluing and nipping systems are among the features that matter most to the company. These functions are particularly important in ensuring the quality and durability of the finished book, especially when handling a variety of substrates and book formats.
A notable technical achievement was the successful binding of a book around 6 cm thick without the need for a swing. Another challenging job involved a 6.5-cm book requiring both swing and perfect binding. “We have successfully handled these difficult jobs, which demonstrates the capability of our setup and the experience we have developed in bookbinding,” Auddy says.
“The Bindwel team’s support has been very good. Their service support and adhesive support are also very good, and yes, I would recommend Bindwel to others,” he says.
Looking at the broader market, Auddy sees publishers increasingly preferring larger, integrated printing houses where printing, post-press and binding capabilities are available under one roof. This trend is likely to put pressure on standalone binders and encourage smaller operations to upgrade their capabilities.
For Itech Enterprise, the investment in the Bindwel Blue Chip represents a step towards adapting to this changing market. By adding in-house perfect binding and increasing its capacity, the Kolkata-based company seeks to offer a more complete service to its customers while taking on a wider range of bookbinding assignments.
