Karan Rajendra Darda of Lokmat has been elected president of The Indian Newspaper Society (INS) for the term 2026-27, following the organization’s 87th Annual General Meeting held on 7 September via video conference, a press release stated.

Darda succeeds Vivek Gupta of Sanmarg, who completes his term as president of the apex body representing publishers of newspapers, magazines, and periodicals across the country.

Alongside Darda, the INS AGM saw the election of a new slate of office-bearers for the society. Tanmay Maheshwari of Amar Ujala is the deputy president, Harsha Mathew of Vanitha is vice president, and Anant Nath of Grihshobhika is honorary treasurer. Mary Paul continues as secretary general.

The AGM also confirmed a 41-member executive committee for 2026-27, drawing representation from major newspaper and magazine groups across India, including Dainik Bhaskar, Hindustan Times, Punjab Kesari, Dainik Jagran, The Indian Express, Business Standard, Anandabazar Patrika, Malayala Manorama, Mathrubhumi, Eenadu, Sakshi, The Telegraph, and Economic Times, among others.

The full committee list reflects the breadth of India’s print media landscape, spanning national dailies, regional-language publications, and specialized periodicals.
