Google News vice-president Shailesh Prakash has stepped down from his position, The Wall Street Journal and other media outlets reported. Prakash’s departure comes after a two-year stint at the tech giant amid strained relationships between Google News and publishers.

After spending a decade at The Washington Post as its chief product and technology officer, Prakash joined Google in late 2022, where he worked on digital transformation, including its in-house ad technology.

The IIT Bombay graduate has also worked with Sun Microsystems, Motorola, Netscape, Microsoft, and Sears Holdings.

Google has been in loggerheads with online publishers after it introduced ‘AI Overviews’, which is an auto-generated summary, overshadowing links to other sites. Digital news publishers complain of monopoly by Google, alleging they do not get a fair share of advertisement revenue from the tech giant.
