Asia’s first 4-color RMGT 9 press with 2 x 2 convertible perfector is now in Patparganj, New Delhi. Supplied by Provin Technos, the sole distributor of RMGT presses in India, the press was installed on 3 March 2017 at Sanjay Printers and Publishers. When we visited the plant in the third week of March, the press was just being commissioned. Along with the new press, Sanjay Printers also invested in a TY 200 plate punch, a dampening filtration machine and a powder extraction machine – all supplied by Noida-based Rado Packaging Machines.
Sanjay Printers and Publishers is a leading notebook and diary printer marketing its stationary products under the Cuckoo brand. The company also prints children books for various publishers. Started in 1985 by Sanjay Sehgal, the company had a 4-color 40-inch press before buying the new 36- inch c4-color press. “We are now concentrating on notebook printing instead of diaries because notebooks have year-round demand. In addition, we also plan to do commercial printing for the market. With the additional feature of a double color (2 x 2) perfecting on the new RMGT, both types of work can be printed efficiently. The highly automated perfecting switchover feature takes just two minutes to changeover from 4 color straight printing to 2 over 2 perfecting. It will help us to print diaries and notebooks in 2 colors as well as print books, magazines and leaflets in 4-color,” says Sanjay Sehgal.
The RMGT 9 series features speeds up to 16,200 for straight printing and 13,000 sheets an hour while perfecting. It can print on substrates ranging from .04 mm to .06 mm in thickness. The RMGT 9 series presses offer many of the high-end automation features and functions as the flagship RMGT 10 series, including a high-speed feeder and an automatic nip width checking mode.
With the new RMGT, we will be able to gain time and capacity as the production speed doubles compared to our earlier machine. A compact high performance press and with greater speed, it actually consumes less power. We can now extend our market to commercial printing as well as packaging printing – in fact, these two are the main reasons for investing in this press.
The new press brings exceptional cost performance, with features such Program Inking for quick print setup, a standard semi automatic plate changer (with fully automatic and simultaneous player plate change as an option) and several preset systems and automatic cleaning devices. The automated make-ready process reliably decreases make-ready times.
With the installation of the new RMGT 9 4-color, Sanjay Printers has also started to talk about packaging. “We have a complete in-house setup for prepress, postpress and pressroom,” said Sehgal. “With the new RMGT, we will be able to gain time and capacity as the production speed doubles compared to our earlier machine. A compact high performance press and with greater speed, it actually consumes less power. We can now extend our market to commercial printing as well as packaging printing – in fact, these two are the main reasons for investing in this press.”
The company uses a Kodak Trendsetter 800 thermal CtP to produce about 300 Kodak and Technova supplied plates daily. The pressroom has a pair of Heidelberg presses in addition to the new RMGT press. Altogether about 20 tonnes of paper are printed and converted daily. The postpress unit has automatic folding, gathering, sewing, glueing and cutting machines.
