Print Xpress, a full-service commercial printer headquartered in Shah and Nahar Industrial Estate – Print Hub at Lower Parel in Mumbai, recently equipped its unit with Komori press. Print Xpress serves a variety of industries and institutions, including Pharma and Cosmetics industry to produce a wide gamut of commercial applications, including paper based laminated bags, catalogs and brochures. In the short time since the press’ installation, the company has witnessed enhanced productivity and improved profitability. “We have been partners with Komori for more than 15 years. As we plan to develop our business and address the needs of our customers, we needed to add a press that would enable us to not only deliver exceptional quality with fast turnarounds but also expand our capabilities into new markets such as packaging. Additionally, Komori provides reliability that we have come to depend on over the years,” says  Anup Agarwal of Print Xpress.

In the beginning, the plant was equipped with the used Komori presses manufactured 25 years ago, apart from Lithrone LS426 which is still running in the unit. Facing the breakdown halted the production for more than two days due to unavailability of spare parts. “Being in the commercial business, the fast turnaround becomes a necessity to subsist in the market. Every job demands to be supplied in one day itself. Our endeavor is to pass on the finished job; however, any breakdown may fail to meet the deadlines that would quickly wreck our business,” he says.

Replacing the existing press with the new workhorse to expand the printing capabilities and additionally Agarwal is impressed with the advanced technology that E429 offered an automatic plate-changing system and an advanced interface system that enables extremely quick makeready and reduction in paper waste. Due to the handling of the 20 x 29” size by E429, Print Xpress experiences the fast job cycle time, as makeready consume around ten minutes of the production and used to produce the output at an average speed of 12,000 sheets an hour for varying 90 to 350 gsm coated and 60 gsm uncoated substrates. However, the maximum speed it can run at 13000 sheets an hour. For the next five years, the recent installed press assures Agarwal to work with ataraxia and focus more on business rather than maintenance. In a case of necessary maintenance for the new press, he his entrusted with the services offered by the dedicated team of Insight Communications and availability of spare components with them could fix the need within a daytime.

In Mumbai, many printer service providers (PSPs) expressed the challenge facing a deficit in human resource, especially in shrinking commercial business where the drift is toward making products readily available, dependency more on manual intervention can be bowledover through automated solutions. With Komori, Agarwal quickly churns around 30 jobs within the range of 500 to 1500 copies in a single round. Hence, cutting the cost of the energy, time and additional consumables. Print Xpress`s state of art plant comprises of the press and finishing equipment spread across the two galas of 800 Sq. Ft. each.
