RMGT (Ryobi Mitsubishi Graphic Technology) will demonstrate a new jointly developed with Miyakoshi digital sheetfed press at drupa 2016. Called the DP7, the 4-color B2 press is based on a Ryobi 750 offset press structure using Miyakoshi’s high viscosity liquid toner technology. Demonstrations will highlight the suitability of the press for custom production of small print runs according to RMGT.

Still under development like many other digital presses to be shown at this drupa, RMGT will not be accepting orders for the DP7 at this drupa. The resolution of this press is 1200 x 1200 dpi using an ultra fine particle liquid toner. The speed is said to be 6,000 sheets an hour, which apparently could be increased subsequently for a 64 to 360 gsm paper at a maximum size of 788 x 600 mm with the print area being 765 x 580 mm. Currently a 4-color press, the printed substrate goes into a taller drying unit comprising fusing rollers and infrared heaters for fixing and curing.

RMGT is not disclosing full specifications of the DP7 at this point with no pricing information but states that the press will print variable data; shorter print runs than suited to conventional litho; will feature short makeready and a low cost per page.

While speaking to Indian Printer & Publisher, Vinay Kaushal, director of Provin Technos said, “Digital offset printing and LED UV are going to be the next big things for the market and drupa 2016 will reveal the next course of the industry.”

At a pre-drupa event held in Delhi, Provin Technos, the Indian partner of RMGT invited Katsushi Hirokawa, vice president, development member of the board, Koji Okubo, general manager, international sales and marketing department and Toshiyuki Ishibashi from the international sales and marketing department of RMGT to discuss the company’s plans with Indian printers. N Pradeep and Vinay Kaushal, directors of Provin Technos also spoke at the event.

Koji Okubo said that RMGT will introduce its new symbol mark, new corporate message, and a line-up of printing equipment featuring a new uniform design inspired by the exhibit theme of Irodori — Coloring the World Together at drupa. He said, “RMGT in association with Provin Technos is doing very well in India which is significant for us more so because the Chinese market has dropped substantially due to the economic recession there. In the period from 2014 to 2015, we have achieved an installation increase of 200%. We are focussing on the sales of the RMGT 9 series with coating unit which has a significant advantage against its competitors. Provin has also been proposing annual maintenance contracts for not only new presses but also for used or existing presses and already more than 100 such contracts are now being managed by Provin.”

The multicolor sheetfed offset pressesthat will be shown at drupa are the RMGT 10, a B1-plusformat press based on the previous Mitsubishi V3000, and the RMGT 9, an SRA1 (940 mm) press. The company willshow a 6- color RMGT 10 capable of printing on 1 mm thick board set up in a carton configuration with in-line quality control, non-stop feeder and a coater that will also use LED UV curing.

The RMGT 9 at drupa will be an 8- color perfector built on the same sheet transport as the larger machine. It has LED UV units to cure both sides of the sheet, simultaneous plate changing and PQS in-line quality control. Both presses are controlled through a new large display monitor.
