Sukumar Ranganathan has resigned as the editor-in-chief of Hindustan Times, and Kunal Pradhan will step in to take over the role, multiple media reports stated.

Pradhan joins the organization as acting editor-in-chief on 1 October 2026 and officially takes over full responsibilities in mid-November. Ranganathan will officially move on from HT Media Group following the conclusion of the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit in November, exchange4media.com reported.

Ranganathan has been with the HT Media Group for nearly two decades, serving as the founding editor of Mint and heading Hindustan Times as its top editor since September 2017.

Pradhan is returning to Hindustan Times, where he previously served in senior editorial leadership positions, including as managing editor. He brings nearly 30 years of journalism experience from major outlets like India Today, The Indian Express, Mumbai Mirror, and Reuters.

Tagging Ranganathan, Pradhan tweeted on X, “No one can replace @HT_Ed . Will just have to give it a shot.”

“I predict that the newsroom’s output will become even better,” Ranganathan replied.
