Starting with a single letterpress in the late 1980s, Kolhapur-based Shivam Offset began as a printer of bill books and visiting cards. Today, it has established itself as a prominent book printer and packaging converter, operating four fully equipped production units that are regularly upgraded with advanced presses and finishing equipment, the latest addition being a Komori Lithrone G37.
Supported by a workforce of 300, two units are in Kolhapur, while the other two are located in Pune and Belgaum. The company operates 17 web presses, 8 offset presses, and a full line of post-press equipment efficiently across its facilities. “The brand new Lithrone GL37 has been installed at one of our Kolhapur units,” said founder Sanjay Mahadev Thorwat. The 6-color Komori sheetfed offset press is ideal for handling multiple jobs.
The Lithrone G37 enhances the company’s book and packaging printing capabilities. Designed for book printing, it handles short turnarounds, variable job sizes, and diverse requirements, enabling precise publishing and commercial printing.
Running at 15,000 sph (sheets per hour), the press ensures high-quality output with precise control. Its offline KHS-AI system supports quick startup, high-speed performance, and automation-driven stability, making it ideal for low-waste book printing.
It also offers flexible media handling, supporting sheet thicknesses from 0.04 mm to 0.6 mm, with an option for 0.8 mm. This allows it to process a wide range of paper types. “The 37-inch format is perfect for A1-size outputs, suitable for both books and commercial graphics,” Sanjay added.
The company also uses equipment from Heidelberg, Bindwel, and Muller Martini. Its clients are spread across India, especially in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa, and Bihar, along with select overseas projects.
Sanjay is joined by his sons Shivam and Kamlesh Thorwat, and his brother Vijay Thorwat. The company is named after his elder son Shivam.
