SAP Print Solutions, a leader in end-to-end print services, has taken a significant leap in short-run book production by installing the Bindwel Freedom 2K SRS binder at its new Bhiwandi facility. This binder complements the earlier installation of a Miyakoshi digital inkjet printer, reinforcing SAP’s commitment to innovation and quality in short-run printing.

The decision to invest in the Bindwel Freedom 2K SRS came after a visit to Bindwel’s open house in Bengaluru, showcasing the advanced capabilities of the Indian-manufactured binder. Initially, SAP had considered the BW@2500 binder. However, the demonstrations of the Freedom 2K’s rapid job-switching just through QR code reading helped change the decision.

Revolutionizing short-run bookbinding

Installed three months ago, the Freedom 2K SRS binder has already demonstrated its transformative impact on SAP’s operations. Designed specifically for short-run and micro-run book production, the binder features:

Rapid job changes: Switch between jobs in under one minute, enabling SAP to handle even up to over 25 different jobs daily.

Thickness measurement device: Ensures precise binding for books of varying sizes and formats. As paper never behaves absolutely as per a meter or a design it is always better to measure the actual thickness.

QR code integration: Facilitates seamless job management and workflow automation.

Multiple cluing applications: Offers flexibility to cater to diverse customer requirements.

These features have positioned the Bindwel Freedom 2K SRS as a game-changer in the short-run bookbinding segment.

In the last year, we have sold over 20 machines in the short-run book print segments to a variety of printing solutions such as Atexco, Founder, Monotech Knozzlejet, Miyakoshi, and others. There is more realization now that the post-press solution needs to have the agility to turn around the job in under one minute. Otherwise, the inkjet print provider will be competing with sheetfed printing, as a quicker and cheaper option; and may not have a value proposition to offer. A conventional binder takes 15 minutes to change from one job to another – and if you have 20 books to handle, then five hours will be spent only on make-ready,” says Suresh Nair, leader for Short-Run Solutions at Bindwel.

Leadership perspectives

The Bindwel Freedom 2K SRS binder has redefined our approach to post-press operations,” said Sanjay Bamne, director of SAP Print Solutions. “Its ability to adapt quickly between jobs, combined with precision and reliability, enables us to meet the dynamic needs of our customers. This installation underscores our two-decade-long relationship with Bindwel, a testament to their world-class technology developed right here in India.”

Suresh Nair, highlighted the growing importance of advanced binding technologies: “India’s short-run book printing market is evolving rapidly. Printers are under pressure to deliver smaller batches with faster turnarounds. The Freedom 2K SRS binder offers the precision and flexibility needed to thrive in this environment.”
