Leading paper manufacturer JK Paper made a significant impact at the 18th Pack Plus held from August 22 to 24 2024 at Delhi’s Pragati Maidan. The company showcased its wide range of eco-friendly packaging solutions, and positioned paper as a sustainable alternative to plastic.

Located in hall 9, stand G1, JK Paper’s exhibits stood out for their innovative design, which underscored the critical role of paper in sustainable packaging. The stand, which became a focal point for many attendees, featured a diverse array of high-end, sustainable packaging solutions tailored to various industries, including textiles, pharmaceuticals, FMCG, and food and beverages. Visitors were keen to explore paper-based products, reflecting a growing interest in eco-friendly alternatives.

Debasish Ganguly, general manager of marketing and communications at JK Paper, emphasized the company’s commitment to sustainability, saying paper is the most effective medium to achieve this goal. “A lot of changes are taking place in sustainable packaging solutions, and it’s time to make some responsible choices in our lives to help save the planet,” Ganguly said. He urged the attendees to take a step toward sustainability by switching to paper-based alternatives such as paper straws, cups, carry bags, food wrapping, and other packaging solutions.

Debunking the ‘myth’ around paper

We don’t cut trees for paper, rather, we harvest trees like any other crop. If you aren’t guilty of consuming vegetables or grains, you shouldn’t feel guilty about using paper,” Ganguly claimed.

Ganguly elaborated on JK Paper’s agro/social farm forestry program, which began in 1991. Through this initiative, the company grows and harvests special varieties of trees such as subabul, casuarina, and eucalyptus on farmlands specifically cultivated for this purpose. These trees are treated like any other crop. The company works closely with farmers to provide them with livelihood opportunities. “Through this program, we are investing in farmers, helping them create sustainable income streams,” Ganguly noted.

He said the argument that the paper industry is a major contributor to deforestation is a myth and misconception. “The paper industry has become an easy target, while the timber industry often escapes scrutiny,” he said. Ganguly said JK Paper manufactures its products through sustainable processes, ensuring that its packaging solutions are eco-friendly and industry-friendly.

JK Paper’s commitment to sustainability, he says, extends beyond its products. The company has adopted modern technology to ensure its manufacturing processes are sustainable, producing eco-friendly paper for a range of needs. “JK Paper has embraced advanced technology to make the process of paper production more sustainable, creating products that meet every need in an environmentally responsible way,” Ganguly said.

Ganguly called on other paper companies to join forces and participate in packaging exhibitions to promote sustainable packaging solutions. “This is the call of the hour,” he emphasized, urging the industry to come together to champion the cause of sustainability.
