At a time when print media is facing the heat across the world, far away in the US, a small community newspaper in business since the late nineteenth century has shut its operations.

After 154 years, The Record—formerly known as the Renovo Record—has printed its final edition. The oldest newspaper in Clinton County, Pennsylvania, US, officially ceased publication on 31 December 2025.

Media reports from the US quoted owner Michael Frank, citing mounting financial pressures that made continuing the publication unsustainable. Printing costs were set to rise sharply in January 2026, while declining local advertising revenue and a shrinking subscriber base further strained the paper’s finances. Efforts to secure a new owner ultimately proved unsuccessful.

Founded in 1871, The Record held a unique place in Clinton County as its only locally owned newspaper, renowned for its community reporting and sports coverage. At the time of closure, the weekly paper’s circulation had declined to around 1,500.

The newspaper’s final print issue hit the stands on 31 December 2025, with copies remaining available at local businesses through the first week of January 2026. Although the print edition has ended, readers can still access archives and past stories at therecord-online.com, preserving a piece of the region’s journalistic history.
