Vivek Gupta, CMD & chief group editor of Sanmarg, a Hindi daily headquartered in Kolkata, has been elected President of the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) for 2025-26 at its 86th Annual General Meeting, succeeding MV Shreyams Kumar of Mathrubhumi.

The AGM held on 25 September via video conferencing and other audio-visual means also elected Karan Rajendra Darda of Lokmat as deputy president, Tanmay Maheshwari of Amar Ujala as vice president and Anant Nath of Grihshobhika as honorary treasurer for the year 2025-26. Mary Paul is the secretary-general of the Society. INS is the apex body of publishers of newspapers, magazines and periodicals in India.

Shreyams Kumar praised the resilience of the Indian newspaper industry in his presidential address.

Gupta said he is “honored and humbled” to be elected the president of The Indian Newspaper Society. “It is a matter of pride to be among the few from Bengal in the 86-year history of INS to hold this prestigious position. This recognition belongs to the entire Sanmarg family, my colleagues, and well-wishers who have supported me throughout this journey. I look forward to strengthening the newspaper industry, fostering innovation, and upholding the values of credible journalism,” Gupta, a former Rajya Sabha MP and current MLA from Jorasanko in West Bengal, said.

The members of the INS executive committee for the year 2025-26 are, S Balasubramanian Adityan (Daily Thanthi), Girish Agarwal (Dainik Bhaskar, Bhopal), Samahit Bal (Pragativadi), Samudra Bhattacharya (Hindustan Times, Patna), Hormusji N Cama (Bombay Samachar), Gaurav Chopra (Filmi Duniya), Vijay Kumar Chopra (Punjab Kesari, Jalandhar), Vijay Jawaharlal Darda (Lokmat, Nagpur), Jagjit Singh Dardi (Charhdikala Daily), Pallavi S Dempo (The Navhind Times), Viveck Goenka (The Indian Express, Mumbai), Mahendra Mohan Gupta (Dainik Jagran), Yogesh P. Jadhav (Pudhari), Pratap G. Pawar (Sakal), Sowbhagyalakshmi Kanekal Tilak (Mayura), and Mohit Jain (Economic Times).
