This Independence Day, the Chennai-headquartered The Hindu Group and delivery platform Blinkit joined hands to home-deliver a reprinted copy of The Hindu’s August 15, 1947, edition.

The limited collector’s item, available in Delhi-NCR, Chennai, Mumbai and Bengaluru, captures the spirit and emotion of India’s first Independence Day. Only 5,000 copies have been printed in the newspaper’s current size.

“Blinkit customers can now own a piece of history! Independent India’s first edition of The Hindu is now exclusively available on Blinkit. It’s a collectible, which is a replica of the same edition that was published on August 15, 1947, when India woke up to independence. Feels surreal to be able to deliver this in 10 minutes. Happy Independence Day in advance,” Albinder Dhindsa, founder and CEO of Blinkit. posted on LinkedIn.

The 32-page reprint features rare photographs and greetings from national and world leaders, including Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel, C. Rajagopalachari, Babu Rajendra Prasad, and Lord and Lady Mountbatten, as well as first-hand accounts of celebrations across the country.

“With this collaboration, we’re bringing one of The Hindu’s most treasured editions back into the spotlight,” Pradeep Gairola, business head – Digital, The Hindu Group, has been quoted as saying on medianews4u.com.

“Placing this collectable on a quick comm platform like Blinkit is a proud moment for us. A front-row seat to history—into the hands of today’s readers within minutes,” Gairola added.
