From June 15, Mumbai Mirror returned to newsstands in Mumbai as a daily publication, bringing back the sharp, street-level reporting and city-first journalism that made it a staple of Mumbai mornings. Relaunching from Monday to Sunday, the paper aims to reconnect with readers through its signature mix of deeply reported stories, local insights, and bold perspectives, Bennett, Coleman & Co said.
The newspaper was first launched on May 2005 with a grand ceremony at the Gateway of India as a free daily supplement alongside The Times of India. It was discontinued as a daily in December 2020 after the Covid pandemic blow. The paper’s growth in circulation and positive editorial reception inspired the creation of other city specific newspapers such as the Bangalore Mirror, Pune Mirror and Ahmedabad Mirror.
Mumbai Mirror carved a unique space in the media landscape with its no-nonsense reporting and relatable storytelling. As it resumes its daily run, the newsroom returns refreshed—with a renewed commitment to covering the issues that matter to Mumbaikars and continuing to reflect the spirit of a city that never stops moving.
From the heart of Central Mumbai to the buzzing lanes of Bandra, the high-rises of Andheri and the Western suburbs, Mumbai Mirror is set to land where it matters most — in the top pin codes of the city. With its deep roots in hyperlocal journalism the paper is not just a mirror to the city’s pulse but the most effective voice for local advertisers looking to speak directly to Mumbai’s most sought-after neighborhoods.
Sivakumar Sundaram, CEO & ED (Publishing), Bennett, Coleman & Co, was quoted by media as saying, “Mumbai Mirror has always been more than a newspaper — it’s been the city’s swagger, soul, and street-smart voice. Sharp, fearless, and unapologetically local. Even during its pause, the love never faded.
Surinder Chawla, president (Response), Bennett, Coleman & Co, said the return of Mumbai Mirror isn’t just great news for readers, it’s a game-changer for clients who want to make a mark in Mumbai. “With our unmatched hyperlocal coverage and footprint, brands have a direct line into the homes and hearts of Mumbaikars.”
Subhayu Bagchi, brand head (languages & Mumbai Mirror), BCCL, said, “As a brand, Mumbai Mirror is deeply rooted in the city’s rhythm. We are thrilled to bring it back in a bolder, edgier avatar. With content that reflects the city and its vibe, made by reporters, writers, columnists, trend spotters who understand the city’s pulse very well, we are sure the brand will get the city talking and will become the loudest, most impactful voice of the maximalist city and its people.”
