Bindwel Technologies, a bookbinding specialist, was recently honored with the Tech Transformer Award under the Bharat Awards program, organized by Hindustan Times in association with Fever FM Radio.
The award was received by Viswaprasad S Nair, president of operations, Bindwel, from Indian wrestler, actor, and Sangram Singh, at a ceremony at ITC Grand Mumbai.
Bindwel became the first Indian equipment manufacturer to participate in the Hunkeler Innovation Days in Switzerland, a global event showcasing advancements in digital print and finishing. Bindwel says its presence at this event underscores India’s growing capabilities in bookbinding and print-finishing technology. The company showcased its books-on-demand binding solution, demonstrating its ability to integrate seamlessly into digital workflows and cater to the rapidly evolving needs of book printers worldwide.

Tech Transformer Award – Recognition for Innovation
Bindwel was awarded the Tech Transformer Award for its pioneering development of Insta – the Books on Demand book binding machine, a breakthrough technology capable of producing 1,000 books per hour, where each book can be different. This innovation is set to transform the landscape of book production, aligning seamlessly with the growing global trend of short-run digital printing. With this development, India has become the fifth nation, after Japan, Switzerland, Germany, and Italy, to introduce such an advanced solution. The machine is currently undergoing trials at Repro India, one of India’s leading books-on-demand printers.
Nair, while receiving the award on behalf of the Bindwel team, expressed his gratitude and emphasized the collective effort behind the achievement. He said, “I am humbled by this recognition, which places a great responsibility on my shoulders to lead Bindwel’s team toward becoming a key global player in short-run book production technology. We owe this success to the ecosystem and the Indian book printing industry, which has always encouraged us to develop solutions that align with the business of tomorrow. With three decades of experience in developing bookbinding solutions, Viswaprasad’s journey began as an electronics engineer alongside N Kumar, one of the founding members of Bindwel (erstwhile Welbound), who played a crucial role in developing India’s first indigenous perfect binder.
Accompanying him at the award ceremony was Selvin Chinnaih, marketing lead for Bindwel, who shared his excitement with the media, including Fever FM. “I am thrilled to be part of a team that is making history. Every day in our Bengaluru facility, we witness small victories and occasional setbacks in our development process. It is only when our machines are tested in real customer environments that we truly see success. The enthusiasm of my colleagues in R&D and design is truly infectious, and I am incredibly proud to stand beside Viswaprasad at this prestigious event.”
