Ultimate Tech, a leading supplier of imposition, nesting and finishing automation software, and Bindwel, the leading book binding manufacturers in South Asia, recently announced a new collaboration enabling automated book binding for digital book production.
Bindwel’s manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, India, produces cutting-edge book binding machines, for every post-press requirement — from short runs and book of one to mid-run quantities and long runs with equipment from signature gatherers, perfect binders and precision three-knife trimmers. As India’s digital book printing sector experiences unprecedented growth, Bindwel stands at the forefront, driving the evolution of high quality book binding.
Following the global debut of its Insta Book-on-Demand (BOD) solution at drupa24 in Düsseldorf, the system is now undergoing test runs with India’s leading eCommerce BOD providers. Bindwel’s short run solutions, such as the Freedom 2K and Trimit 30C SRT, have already earned widespread recognition across the country, especially in the recent upsurge in the web-fed inkjet printing of books.
Ultimate Tech enables finishing automation through Ultimate Impostrip and Ultimate Bindery, and in collaboration with Bindwel will offer support to its devices to bridge the gap between prepress and finishing. “With the increasing demand for shorter runs and quicker turnaround times, Impostrip provides lights out, hands free, reliable automation. From imposition to true shape nesting, the generation of marks and the intelligence to dynamically place print elements on the sheet optimally and automatically is our duty,” says Ultimate Tech CEO Julie Watson.
Ultimate Bindery is a standalone software solution designed to fill the gap between prepress and finishing. Ultimate Bindery can complete all the necessary parameters needed to automatically set up the finishing equipment. It enables production of variable length products in varying quantities, on the fly with no manual make-ready.
Pallippuram Sajith, the managing director of Bindwel says, “We understand that the biggest challenge for new entrants in digital and short-run, book-on-demand printing is learning how to efficiently run and integrate various equipment. Our discussions with Ultimate Bindery for JDF-based workflow management aim to simplify this. By enabling seamless communication across printing, finishing, binding, and trimming systems from different manufacturers, we are not just providing equipment but helping our customers automate their digital workflow – making their journey into short-run and on-demand production easier and more efficient.”
“Ultimate Bindery operates as a central location to validate that each job is built respecting the capabilities and constraints of the selected finishing equipment,” says Watson. “Now connecting with Bindwel’s automatic binding systems will bring more options to automated finishing possibilities and workflows.”
