WAN IFRA to complete 70 years

Claude Bellanger (1977)

WAN-IFRA was born in 1948 as FIEJ (International Federation of Newspaper Publishers). In Estoril, Portugal this June, 70 years will separate it from FIEJ’s first Congress in Paris, but its mission and values remain intact and as powerful as they were when founder Claude Bellanger, publisher of the French newspaper Le Parisien Libéré formed the international federation of publishers after World War II.

In Estoril, it will pay homage to Bellanger, and his concepts of struggle and hope; solidarity and the power of one community; which are expanded in an online tribute. Today, as in 1948, the company needs to be ahead of those threatening the information essential to the normal functioning of open and tolerant societies.
