Founded by four partners, Harish Bansal, Neeraj Rastogi, Ashu Bharaj and Ashok Goel in 1996, Naph Graphics develops web offset printing presses, specially designed for printing newspapers and periodicals with medium-sized editions and circulations. The company started with the production of uniquely designed shafts and then came up with a new folder design for web offset presses that it first sold to an Eastern India customer. At a time when newspapers are adding capacity and quality improvements to existing presses, Naph is also able to offer attachments and field retrofits for existing presses of other manufacturers in addition to its own web offset presses.

Best-in-class folders

Naph Graphics is well known for its quarter folders, which it claims have features that are unique. Based on the 2:2:1 principle with double diameter jaw drum, double diameter folding drum and a single diameter cutting cylinder, the configuration helps in improved folder performance since it has just one clutch to engage and disengage.

The folder is equipped with an electronic copy counter, safety pins for overload protection and fan-type delivery. It is also equipped with an inline creasing system for perfect quarter folding at high speeds in addition to parallel perforation on the folded edge of the section in order to release trapped air. Naph Graphics also offers high-speed double parallel folders for book printing with parallel and cross perforation. Naph claims its folders require less maintenance, are less noisy and offer reliable functions and longer service life. In terms of productivity, the folder output easily exceeds 25,000 cph. It is also possible to insert color and monochrome supplement pages in the main section of the newspaper automatically with the help of a balloon former.

Integrated reel stand

Naph Graphics claims to be the first manufacturer in India to put the reel stand underneath the tower while ensuring that the height of their 4-Hi tower remains at 14.5 feet. Naph Graphics presslines with integrated reel-stands ensure shorter web paths resulting in less wastage apart from saving space on the shop floor.

Other innovations and engineering improvements carried out by Naph Graphics on its presses result in considerably better performance. For instance, Naph Graphics’ press towers have staggered cylinders adjusted to ensure that even when the blanket is disturbed, the tension on the paper does not change, resulting in better ink registration and quality output. These critical improvements in design components are the result of market-oriented research that are an integral part of product development and engineering at Naph Graphics.
