Silverpoint Press officially inaugurated its newly installed HP Indigo 12000 press at its state-of-the-art integrated plant in Mahape in Navi Mumbai on 24 January 2017. The press was inaugurated by Alon Bar-Shany, general manager, HP Indigo, Graphics Solutions Business. With this installation, Silverpoint has become the first printer in India to have the B2-size Indigo 12000 press that was demonstrated at drupa in May 2016.
Speaking to Indian Printer and Publisher, Bar-Shany said, “I remember the inauguration of the first Indigo at Silverpoint. It was one the first Indigo presses in the commercial printing segment. Our relationship with Silverpoint has grown tremendously since then.” Speaking about the Indigo 12000, he said that the press has been specifically developed keeping the commercial printing market in mind. “The quality and registration are excellent. In fact, it is the best press we have invested in. Clearly, the advantage is the format size.”
On the overall trend in the Indian print industry, BarShany felt that it is headed for consolidation but the process will happen gradually. “There are going to be lesser number of printers in the future. The market will see more mergers and acquisitions with more foreign and international companies coming into India. Those printers who have so far been complacent thinking that just by working hard, devoting a few extra hours and lowering prices they can survive, will be in for a surprise. That is not going to happen and it cannot work.”
Shabbir Muchhala, managing director, Silverpoint Press sounded extremely confident about the newly installed press and said that the Indigo 12000 will help in meeting the high expectations of customers and will help in widening the customer base. “There has been fabulous support from team HP over the years,” he shared.
PrintNation
Daniel Muchhala, the third generation at SilverPoint, feels that the new Indigo 12000 will help the print house serve its customers in a way they have never been served before. PrintNation, which is Daniel Muchhala’s baby, is a B2B web-toprint portal compatible with PC, tablet and mobile. The portal is expected go live in about a month.
“We want to put some of our existing clients on this platform and target new customers as well. Our initial target will be customers in and around Mumbai. Once we are familiar with the whole operation, we will gradually scale up the operation to pan-India level,” Daniel said. He also suggested that a B2C model could be developed in the future but for the moment the focus will be on the B2B segment.
