Lower Parel based Supriya Graphics has seen a major turnaround in its business in the last one year owing to some significant investments it has made in technology. In January 2016, the design and print house bought a new Komori Enthrone E429 replacing an old offset press, which too was from Komori. This made an instant impact on the company’s overall printing operations and Supriya decide to capitalize on the Komori purchase by opting for a Kodak Achieve four-up CtP. The deal was signed during drupa 2016 and the complete installation took place in December 2016.
Chintamani Agashe of Supriya Graphics says getting the Kodak CtP in-house has eliminated many issues. The design and print house was outsourcing the plate-making work to third party and this created problems such as erratic quality, unpredictable delivery time and lack of job confidentiality. “Since the CtP operation is now under our control, certain bottlenecks have been removed which has enhanced our productivity. Also, there has been a clear improvement in quality,” says Agashe.
Although Agashe did consider other options, Kodak was always his first preference. Before visiting drupa, he had already attended the demonstrations session and technical presentations at Kodak’s office in Mumbai. “We definitely looked at other brands at drupa but our minds were already made and we sealed the Kodak deal there,” he shares.
Supriya is located in Tantia Jogani Industrial Estate in Lower Parel and operates from a 2,500 sq. ft space spread over two floors. One floor houses the printing department while the other has the design department and CtP setup. It designs and prints marketing collaterals such as posters and calendars, coffee-table books, educational books and corporate gifts, among others. In addition to the Komori offset press, Supriya Graphics has a Xerox 700i digital press, a Polar cutting machine and Peco punching machine. The binding work is usually outsourced.
