Tech-Max is one of the leading Indian publishers with three printing units and good distribution networks with warehouses in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Delhi to meet the demands of the supply chain cycle. Sachin Shah and Pradeep Lunawat laid the foundation of Tech-Max Publications in the year 1996. Today Tech-Max is a publisher with 1,800 titles to its credit in various fields including engineering, pharmacy, polytechnic and management.

Tech-Max has a strong base in Mumbai, Pune and Gujarat. With increasing demand among youth for smartphones and laptops, the company is going all out to step up its presence in the digital space. Recently, Tech-Max launched an app to search for technical books and download them in the ePub 3 format. Tech-Max provides each book with an activation code that needs to be fed in an app, so that a user can download an eBook free of cost. Once the book is downloaded the value added feature for students is to have more number of questions in the multiple choice question format. Such mock tests are provided with the right solutions by just clicking on the question – the main intention is to help students with self-assessment prior to the exam. It is easy to use an eBook rather than printed copies as it is economical for students.

User experience

Speaking to Indian Printer & Publisher, Shah, proprietor at TechMax Publications says, “The most important aspect of any product or service is the overall experience. With ePub, we enable youth to understand the content in a better way by providing colored diagrams and figures, whereas in printed books we use single color black printing. Adding more questions along with solutions increases the number of pages and size of eBooks and may diminish the readers’ interest. With our vast experience of 25 years, we understand the taste of readers and have successfully registered more than 2 lakh users of the Tech-Max app. We keep visiting colleges and make the students as well as faculty members aware of how the app functions.”

Connecting with authors

Presently, Tech-Max is linked with more than 500 authors. Before publishing any book, authors send a copy to the technical team for approval of the content. The sample copies are forwarded to faculty members from institutions and depending upon the changes in feedback the book is printed. There have been cases where the book production has been stopped for a semester due to content-related issues. With such stringent measures, Tech-Max has become a preferred choice among students. Moreover, the company is getting in touch with other book publishers to provide digital services for the conversion of printed copies to the ePub 3 format. Currently Tech-Max has a database of around 1 million consumers and the company can provide better marketing and promotional services to other educational book publishers.

Future plans

Presently, Tech-Max offers eBooks as complementary copies along with physical books and plans to expand its eBook services in northern states. As the number of users of eBooks is increasing, they will shortly launch eBooks which can be purchased through websites. These eBooks will be cost-effective. “In future, we may provide a video instead of static diagrams. Linking the diagrams to a video can result in better understanding of technical concepts,” Shah concludes.
