Press Club of India elects new office-bearers

The results of the Press Club of India (PCI) election 2024 was declared on Sunday, with the existing panel of senior journalists Gautam Lahiri and Neeraj Thakur making a clean sweep.

All key posts of five office-bearers and 16 managing committee members were bagged by the Gautam Lahiri-Neeraj Thakur panel.

Present president Gautam Lahiri was reelected to the post, securing 1045 votes. His opponents Atul Mishra and Arun Sharma polled 133 and 116 votes, respectively.

Sangeeta Barooah Pisharoty was elected vice-president with 930 votes against Rahil Chopra and Prahlad Singh Rajput, who received 230 and 100 votes, respectively.

For the post of secretary general, Neeraj Thakur defeated Laxmi Devi Aree, securing 913 votes. Afzal Imam was elected as the joint secretary while Mohit Dubey bagged the post of  treasurer.

There were 28 candidates in the fray for the 16-member managing committee. Among the members, Aditi Rajput secured the highest votes (985) while Meghna Dhulia got the second highest votes (905).

Apart from them, Surabhi Kanga, Pragya Singh, Nalini Ranjan Mohanty, Sunil Negi, Asish Gupta, Shankar Anand, Ravinder Kumar, Abhishek Kumar Singh, Anindya Chattopadhyay,  Amitabha Roy Chowdhury, Mohammad Azad, Ashraf Bastavi, PR Sunil, and Pabba Suresh  Babu were declared as the managing committee members.

The election took place on 9 November at the PCI premises.
