The Punjab Kesri group, also known as Hind Samachar Ltd is extending its daily newspaper market reach to Delhi, Shimla, Bhatinda and Rohtak. Punjab Kesari also wants to improve the colour quality of its Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu dailies, supplements and magazine products to be competitive in both old and new markets.

For this reason it is investing in completely new printing plants while simultaneously upgrading existing presses with more automation like motorization, automatic colour and cut-off register controls and spray bar dampening. “We are working from an ideologically and technologically sophisticated vision.

Our business strategy keeps us in a profitable position and amongst the leaders in the newspaper industry,” explains Amit Chopra, vice chairman and joint managing director of Punjab Kesari group.

QI Press Controls is supporting Kesri’s growth strategy by installing 129 mRC+ register control cameras for both colour register and cut-off register on its web offset press lines in several locations. Each of its seven Manugraph Cityline Express 4-Hi towers will be equipped with two mRC+ cameras for colour register control and 1 mRC+ cameras for cut- off control with marks. The same goes for a press with six Ronald web offset 4-Hi towers.

The mRC+ is adigital camera with an integrated microprocessor enabling the measured data to be processed in real-time. Each scanner has three functions — colour register, cut-off register and sidelay register.

As the camera can read an unsupported web, the system can be mounted directly after the last print couple ensuring a very tight control loop.

“Because of good references from users of QI Press Controls’ mRC+ systems, our team was convinced that the partnership with QI Press Controls would be the better option for our upgrade investment.

The fully automated operation of QI Press Controls’ systems, the user-friendly and logical operating interfaces will considerably increase the effectiveness of Punjab Kesari group’s production platform.” Chopra concludes, “We also feel that QI Press Controls’ personal way of approaching customers whether it is in sales or service will be beneficial to us.”

“For us this order is important as with this order QI Press Controls can add its first big newspaper group in local language of the Northern part of India to the client base. It will help us to enter in other similar vernacular newspaper groups in that part of the country,” says QI Press Controls India’s managing director Vijay Pandya.
