The fifth edition of GlobaLocal to be held at Hotel Lalit in New Delhi on 13 and 14 February 2014 promises to be an exciting venture with a lot of international participants from both the West as well as Asia. To be held on the days just before the World Book Fair starts in New Delhi, this is an event for professional publishers to interact and learn from global experts as well as exchange rights.
CEO Roundtable
The keynote speech this year will be delivered by celebrity adman, marketing guru and theatre artist Suhel Seth who is the managing partner of Counselage and was the founder director of Equus. Seth who speaks at various forums in the media is both a knowledgeable speaker and an accomplished entertainer who is known to regale audiences with wit and charm. He has acted in over a hundred plays, in over half a dozen films including those directed by Mrinal Sen, Mahesh Bhatt and Sanjay Leela Bhansali and has written two books. He also sits on the international boards of Cavendish and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, RADA London.
After the opening speech there will be a keynote presentation by Michael Healy executive director, Copyright Clearance Centre (CCC), New York. This will be followed by the CEO Roundtable, a very popular discussion round interestingly named, ‘An industry in search of its identity.’ Among the participants will be Richard Charkin, director of Bloomsbury Publishing UK, one of the most successful global publishing houses following the runaway success of its Harry Potter series. There will also be James Appell, head of Global Development, Bookmate, Russia; Emma House, director of publisher relations, the Publishers Association UK; Winnie Hung, publishing and cross segments strategy development manager, HP Singapore; Neeraj Jain, managing director of Scholastic India; Urvashi Butalia, publisher Zubaan Books; Brijesh Kumar, CEO Digital Media Initiatives; and Kirubha Shankar, CEO Business Blogging. The session will be moderated by Anil Padmanabhan, chief of bureau HT Media.
Workshops and seminars
A workshop on new and innovative models of marketing and transmedia content strategy will be conducted by Sangram Surve, CEO, Think Why Not India. This will be followed by a seminar on buying and selling rights conducted by Lynette Owen, copyright director, Pearson Education, UK; and Arpita Das, publisher and founder, Yoda Press. The German Book Office, which is promoted by the Frankfurt Book Fair, conducts several events during year that teaches publishers, authors and copyright owners, the nuances of buying and selling rights to content. A recent event at Oxford Book Store in New Delhi had three celebrity authors sharing first-hand experience about negotiating content rights with publishers as well as film makers.
Next on the menu is the popular and efficiently conducted customized matchmaking session by the GBO that last year was the highlight of the show. This year there are many more international participants than last year. Last but not the least, there will be the experts table that will typically add value and knowledge to the forum.

This year the list of foreign publishers and participants is higher than the last year. Among the foreign publishing industry professionals are David Bennett, publisher and creative director of Boxer Books; Carl Hanser Verlag, director of Carl HanserVerlag, a publishing house that was founded in 1928; Simon Dunlop, non-executive director, Dream Industries and founding partner and director of EmCo Capital Partners, a private equity investment group based in Moscow; and Kelvin Watson, director of eContent and strategy at Queens Library.
