Tobias Associates has announced their Closed-Loop Module (CLM) for web and sheetfed printers to interface their automated press consoles with a Tobias’ scanning densitometer for static close loop operation. The Tobias CLM, in conjunction with the Tobias SDT or SD3 Scanning Densitometer, allows for off-line closed-loop control of most automated press consoles.
Printers today are faced with the need to reduce their manufacturing costs by reducing paper waste and hourly operating costs. Without a doubt, having automated press controls have enabled paper waste to be reduced, but press key control tampering still can occur. Tobias Associates’ new Closed-Loop Module minimizes the ‘human judgment’ of proper ink density, which is highly subjective, to a more modern
approach by using a scanning densitometer to ‘read’ the colour strip and then automatically adjust the keys of the press. The information obtained from scanning a colour strip is exported to the CLM. This data is used to determine the ink key adjustments needed to keep the job running within thedesired target densities – eitherfrom the ‘OK’ sheetor stored in-housevalues. The modulechanges the ink keysettings to theirpredicted valuesautomatically or atthe discretion of the operator.
The module supports a wide variety of automated press consoles and software programs, such as Telecolor I and II, Komori PQC, Mitsubishi Consoles, KBA Planeta Consoles, Microcolor II console and Heidelberg CPC consoles. The CLM system will provide a significant improvement in quality by assisting the operator to meet the job requirements. Polytech is the authorized dealer for Tobias in India
