According to RSF, the purpose of the World Press Freedom Index is to compare the level of freedom enjoyed by journalists and media in 180 countries and territories. The Index is based on a score ranging from 0 to 100, which is assigned to each country or territory, with 100 being the best possible score (the highest possible level of press freedom) and 0 the worst.
The Press Council of India (PCI) has advised newspapers to cross-check the credentials of companies placing advertisements for jobs. In a statement, the PCI said the print media should adhere to the journalistic norms while publishing employment-related advertisements.
“Print Media should cross check the credentials of the company/organization/ institution/person and carry out proper verification to establish their bona fides before booking advertisements of employment by private companies or under government or semi-government schemes or program in order to protect the vulnerable unemployed youth from fraudsters,” the PCI said.
The council also asked newspaper organizations to have a proper advertisement booking policy in place to contain misleading advertisements.
Earlier, the PCI had asked the print media to refrain from publishing any content on the Ram temple consecration that may be “false or manipulated or has the potential to disturb communal harmony or public order.”
