DJ Logistics Solutions, which is into the business of printing, logistics and courier services, has installed its second production level digital printer from Ricoh. In mid-August, the company, which also offers bulk mailing solutions, installed a Ricoh 8100s monochrome digital printer to cater to variable data printing jobs. The company was already a Ricoh user with a Ricoh 7100ex color printer, which it bought two years ago. The new monochrome printer has been installed at the company’s Ghansoli unit in Navi Mumbai, which happens to be its digital printing hub. Along with the two Ricoh production printers, the Ghansoli unit also houses an entry level Konica Minolta color digital printer. The unit has folding and gluing machines from Pratham. DJ Logistics’ second printing facility at Mahape, in Navi Mumbai, takes care of offset printing jobs. The offset printer employed is a manroland 4-color press.

“We have been a Ricoh user and have been quite delighted with the after sales service provided by the company. Although we looked at a few other options, we finally decided to settle for the 8100s,” says Deepak Bhojane, one of the directors in the company. Bhojane adds that since the installation a month ago, the 8100s has printed more than 100,000 impressions.

DJ Logistics has been in the bulk mailing business since 1999. Initially, it offered services to third-party printers but eventually penetrated the printing business and set up its offset unit. In 2009, with its foray into the logistics business, DJ Logistics started offering courier and transportation services. About three years ago, the company ventured into the digital printing segment. “We were outsourcing all the digital short-run jobs to third-party printers. As volumes grew, the outsourcing process became a real problem. That is when we decided to have a digital setup in-house three years ago,” Bhojane apprises. Apart from the two printing units, DJ Logistics has offices in Fort, Vile Parle and Bhandup. It also has a rural branch in Pen in Raigadh district. Outside Maharashtra, it has offices in Delhi and Bengaluru.

In addition to variable data printing, DJ Logistics also prints annual reports, booklets, magazines, newsletters, business cards and diaries. Life Insurance Corporation of India is one of its biggest customers for variable data printing and bulk mailing solutions. Stock Holding Corporation of India, Registrar of Companies, National Insurance Corporation of India, GIC Housing Finance, among others feature in its client list.

The company’s digital printing business has been growing in double digits and Bhojane expects the trend to continue in the future as well. “We have been in digital printing for only three years and our attempt is to get the hang of it and inject stability in the whole process. As we invest in new technology, we expect that stability to gradually emerge,” he says.

“We were a Ricoh user and were quite delighted with the after sales service provided by the company. Although we looked at a few other options, we finally decided to settle for the 8100s.”

Enhancing offset capabilities

In recent years, the company has focused on developing its digital printing capabilities. However, now the focus is to enhance the offset printing department. Bhojane says DJ Logistics will be buying another 4-color offset press in a couple of months, which will be installed at the Mahape unit alongside the Manroland press.

“We are looking at an offset press but not a new one since we currently have budget constraints. So we have decided to settle for a used or refurbished one. We have started looking around for the same,” he concludes.
