Lucknow Printers Association (LPA) organized its Third Mega Event on 28 November 2015 at hotel Tulip in Lucknow. Printers from different parts of India, especially North India, attended the event that saw the governor of Uttar Pradesh, Ram Naik, as the chief guest; and SC Basu, president of AIFMP, as the special guest. Other dignitaries present at the event were Sunil Garg, general secretary of AIFMP; Kamal Chopra, vice president of AIFMP; and Rajendra Kumar Anayath of Guru Jambheshwar University. “This year we have received a very good response from the industry and the morning session was attended by more than 250 visitors while it crossed 300 in the evening session,” said Harjinder Singh, general secretary of LPA. Governor Ram Naik inaugurated the event organized by LPA.
Addressing the gathering, governor Naik emphasized on starting a printing course at the university level in the state so that youths could take it up as a career option. Naik assured that he would take up the issue with the Abdul Kalam Technical University if LPA came up with a proposal for starting a printing course at the university level, and agreed to meet the key members of the association on 1 January 2016 to take the discussion further. The governor also said that more women should come forward and choose printing as a career option – only then the industry could grow in the true sense of the term. Talking about technology adoption, Naik said, “Publishers should start using the latest computer-aided technology for designing if they want to make their publishing business more competitive.”
The keynote speaker of the event, Rajendra Kumar Anayath brought home the point how printing is no more about ink on paper and how it is about new innovations and methods. He spoke on a very interesting topic of InfraReDesign in security printing and 3D printing. He explained to the gathering the InfraReDesign method based on visualization in two specters – visual and infrared. Anayath demonstrated how a second image could provide additional information in respect to the picture one observed with the naked eye. The august gathering enjoyed a completely new experience when Anayath asked them to look at the military camouflage, which he brought along with him, first with their naked eyes and then through an infrared camera. When looked with the infrared camera the audience could see the national flag of India which was actually the additional information in respect to the picture observed with the naked eye. Anayath said, “Military camouflage is just one aspect of the vast possible applications where you can use InfraReDesign.”
Publishers who carried out outstanding work in the printing industry were also felicitated at the Third Mega Event where Naik gave away the ‘Unsung Hero’ award to publishers from Lucknow, Varanasi, Kanpur and Allahabad. This year LPA’s print newsletter, Print News, was launched by Naik. The main sponsor of the event was Ambassador Village, one of the construction companies which will be building the first smart city of India – Dwarka in New Delhi. The co-sponsors were Toyo Inks, Batra Graphic Machinery, Muller Martini, Sai Enterprises, Pamex and Shree Bhumi. Indian Printer & Publisher was one of the media partners of the event.
