Dainik Jagran and Nielsen BookScan announced the Hindi bestseller list for the first quarter of FY 2019 at the Sahitya Akademi. The Hindi bestseller list is for the months of April to June 2019. Released in four categories, the list includes work in fiction, non-fiction, translation and poetry categories. The list was released by Pushpesh Pant, author and columnist, chief guest for the event and Basant Rathore, senior vice president at Jagran Prakashan. Neeta Gupta, publisher, and Prabhat Ranjan, Hindi novelist, fiction writer and translator, were the speakers for the session ‘Bhartiya bhasha aur anuwaad.’
Hindi top 10 fiction category
Surender Mohan Pathak’s 300th novel and Vimal series’ 43rd novel Qahar was the first in the fiction category. Nilotpal Mrinal’s Aughad and Dark Horse: Ek Ankahi Dastan, Satya Vyas’s three books – Banaras Talkies, Chaurasi and Dilli Darbaar – writer Gaurav Solanki’s Gyarvin A Ke Ladke, Divya Prakash Dubey’s October Junction, Shashank Bhartiya’s Dehati Ladke and Ashutosh Garg’s Ashwathama: Mahabharat ka shapit yodha are all in top 10 in this category. Now an annual exercise, the Hindi bestseller list is being published by Dainik Jagran and Nielsen BookScan for the third consecutive year.
Hindi top 10 non-fiction category
Author Ashok Kumar Pandey’s Kashmirnama in the non-fiction category is again on the top. Writer Vijay Trivedi’s three books – BJP: Kal, Aaj Aur Kal, Haar Nahi Manoonga: Ek Atal Jeevan Gatha and Yada yada Hi Yogi – actor Ashutosh Rana’s Maun Muskaan Ki Maar and Ajeet Bharti’s Bakar Puran are among the top 10 as well.
Hindi top 10 translation category
In the translation category, Chetan Bhagat’s The Girl in Room 105 is on the top, Arundhati Roy’s Ek Tha Doctor Ek Tha Sant and former chief minister of Bihar, Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Gopalganj Se Raisina, Ruchir Sharma’s Democracy on the Road (Hindi): Loktantra via Sadak Marg: Bharat ki 25 Saal ki Chunaavi Yatraon ka Nichod, Prannoy Roy and Dorab R Sopariwala’s book The verdict (Hindi): Bhartiya Janadesh, The: Chunaavon ka Vishleshan have all made it to the top ten. Writer Amish Tripathi’s Sita – Mithila Ki Yoddha, former president of India APJ Abdul Kalam’s Meri Jeevan Yatra and Devdutt Pattanaik’s Meri Geeta are also in top 10 in the translation category.
Hindi top 10 poetry category
In the poetry category, two books from the Indian Bollywood lyricist and Urdu language poet, Rahat Indori’s Naraz and Do Kadam Aur Sahi have occupied the first and second spot, respectively. Indian film and theatre actor, music director, lyricist, singer and scriptwriter, Pyush Mishra’s two books Tum Meri Jaan Ho Raziya Bi and Kuchh Ishq Kiya Kuchh Kam Kiya are on third and fourth spot. Apart from this, books by Gulzar, Javed Akhtar, Munvwar Rana, Wasim Barelvi, Gautam Rajrishi and Sarthak Sagar are among the top 10 in this category.
