Wan-Ifra, the World Association of News Publishers, has announced the appointment of Stig Kirk Ørskov as its new chief executive officer, effective beginning 2026. Ørskov succeeds Vincent Peyrègne, who has served as CEO since 2012.
After 13 years at the helm of Wan-Ifra, Vincent Peyrègne has decided to step down as chief executive officer to take up new professional challenges. To succeed Peyrègne, the executive board has appointed Stig Ørskov to lead Wan-Ifra into its next chapter. Ørskov brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record in the media industry, most recently as CEO of JP/Politiken Media Group, the leading media company in Denmark. Ørskov has also been serving Wan-Ifra as vice-president for the last six years.
Ladina Heimgartner, chairwoman of Wan-Ifra and CEO of Ringier Media Switzerland, commented, “Stig’s visionary leadership, deep understanding of the media industry, and commitment to journalistic values make him the ideal candidate to steer Wan-Ifra in a rapidly evolving media landscape.”
Vincent Peyrègne has been at the helm of Wan-Ifra for the past 13 years, significantly contributing to the association’s growth and success. Under his leadership, Wan-Ifra expanded its membership base and re-established a solid financial foundation, strengthening its role as a key advocate for news publishers worldwide, addressing critical issues such as press freedom, digital transformation, and business sustainability. After handing over to Ørskov in early 2026, Peyrègne will continue working with Wan-Ifra as Senior Strategic Advisor, ensuring the smooth transition away from his current responsibilities.
“This is an exciting new chapter for Wan-Ifra. I am proud of what we have achieved thanks to an exceptionally committed team and supportive board members over the past twelve years. I am grateful to all our members for their trust and loyal support for our programs, as confirmed by record participation levels in recent years.“ Said Peyrègne. “It is an honor to pass the torch to Stig Ørskov, a remarkable manager with an impressive track record who will take Wan-Ifra to a new level.“ He added.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to Vincent Peyrègne for his outstanding service and dedication to Wan-Ifra,” said Heimgartner. “His leadership has been essential in shaping the organization, and we are very pleased that he will continue to contribute as Senior Strategic Advisor.”
The transition marks a new era for Wan-Ifra as it continues to support its members in navigating an increasingly complex media environment. Ørskov’s appointment is expected to drive forward Wan-Ifra’s strategic initiatives, fostering greater collaboration, innovation, and resilience among news publishers globally.
“I am deeply honored and excited to take on the role of CEO of Wan-Ifra,” said Stig Ørskov. “Our industry faces unprecedented challenges and opportunities, and I look forward to working with the Wan-Ifra team, our members, and stakeholders to advance the mission of Wan-Ifra in these turbulent times. Our mission is clear: we will defend press freedom and safeguard the public trust in journalism while supporting our members in building the future of news media on the foundation of innovation and creativity that define the spirit of our global community.”
