Swapna Printing Works, a premium book production and packaging business in Kolkata, has upgraded its hard case binding capacity and production capabilities with the installation of a Kolbus DA 260 casemaking machine. Director Souvik Bhattacharjee continues to invest in high technology to cater to the growing demand for high-quality hardcover books and luxury rigid boxes in eastern India and export markets.

The Kolbus DA 260 is known for its precision, speed, and flexibility. It will predominantly be used for premium casemaking applications such as the seamless production of book covers, luxury rigid box components, and bespoke packaging cases. The investment is aimed at delivering benchmarked excellence in finish and consistency, essential for the competitive premium packaging and publishing markets.

The casemaker was quickly installed by the combined technical teams of Kolbus Germany and Manroland Sheetfed India. From machine offloading to precise alignment, software configuration, and trial runs, each meticulous step and calibration check was aimed at meeting the high expectations of this investment by the customer.

Commissioning included rigorous testing of multiple casemaking formats to test flawless operation at optimized production speeds for a variety of materials and types of applications. Running at its designed capacity, the machine is said to be already contributing to the company’s expanding order book.

Swapna’s director, Bhattacharjee, says, “We are extremely satisfied with the professional approach and technical expertise demonstrated by the Kolbus and Manroland India teams. This installation enhances our production standards and helps us serve our customers with world-class quality.”

Service and spares “at a fair price”

This project reflects Manroland Sheetfed India’s commitment to delivering professional-level installation support and after-sales service for all Kolbus equipment installations in India. With the growing demand for luxury rigid boxes and premium book covers for hard–case books in India, the installation of top technology, efficient and reliable equipment in the postpress section implies that Indian print businesses are taking the export opportunities very seriously.

For Manroland Sheetfed India, it is another step in realizing its almost decade-old recovery in the Indian market as a leading supplier of offset presses and post-press equipment by demonstrating its commitment to professionally managed installations. Its increased investments in resources in the subcontinent’s highly competitive environment are rationalized by its delivery of spare parts and service “at a fair price.”
