At Paperex 2023, Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL) — a leading manufacturer of paper from bagasse — highlighted its packaging boards and cup stocks. Maplitho varieties such as TNPL radiant platinum, TNPL radiant stationery, TNPL eco maplitho and folding box board (FBB), SBS board varieties such as aura fold plus, aura brilliant plus, aura grafik, and cup stock varieties aura flute, aura flute supreme were other highlights of TNPL’s stand.

Paper cups, printing cards, folding boards, and copier samples were displayed aesthetically at TNPL stand. In an interaction, D Arasu, senior marketing manager, TNPL, highlighted the footfall at the exhibition. “It was not too crowded on the first day, but the subsequent days saw a flood of attendees at every stand,” Arasu said.

At its plant in Karur and Trichy districts, TNPL produces 4.4 lakh tonnes and 2.5 lakh tonnes of paper and board, respectively, every year. The Karur district unit is dedicated to the production of paper and copiers whereas the other unit is for boards. The company, labeled as one of the largest bagasse-based paper mills, exports one-fifth of its products to various European countries, Sri Lanka, Kenya, UAE, and others. Many leading Indian publishers are TNPL’s customers as well.

Citing the example of Paperex, a big event even in a digital world, Arasu and his team were optimistic that the paper consumption graph would never fall. “Paper consumption has gone down for sure. It may reduce but will not die.”

The audience knows about the paper industry, the paper production process, and usage. But they are here to gain some new insights about the industry and witness innovations,” he said.
