Registration of newspapers with the Registrar of Newspapers in India (RNI) will fully go online, the Times of India reported, quoting information and broadcasting ministry sources.

The move is expected to bring down the application processing time from a number of months to just seven days. The ministry is in charge of the digitization project that has been set in motion and should be completed by 31 March 2023, the newspaper reported.

In another exercise, the ministry is auditing the space in its buildings and cleared up nearly 11.5 lakh square feet across 20 cities. Affiliated offices currently operating from rented spaces will be accommodated in the cleared-up space, ToI said.

Prime minister Narendra Modi talked about the ministry’s house audit in his ‘Mann ki Baat’ program on 25 December.
