Millennium Xerox, which began as small copy shop in Vashi in 1999, now operates four large branches across all the major areas of Navi Mumbai. In addition to Vashi, it has branches at CBD Belapur, Nerul and Panvel, and has plans to expand into semi-rural areas in the adjoining districts of Navi Mumbai. Apart from commercial printing jobs, Millennium also caters to a strong customer base consisting of engineering and architecture students as all the areas where it operates from in Navi Mumbai abound in educational institutions of higher education. Consequently, Milennium sees heavy demand for wide format printing of technical drawings, designs, graphics, etc. Since last Diwali, it has been upgrading its existing plotters to HP Designjet D5800. Millennium bought its first D5800 post Diwali and in the next six months, it installed one each at all the four branches taking the total number of D5800 to four currently. Earlier, it had four dye-ink production printers, an HP Designjet T7100 and four HP Designjet 5100 but now it has only two of each as they have been replaced by the D5800.
“After getting the D5800 we can do jobs much faster as compared with the 5100. In addition, jobs bigger than 42 inches, which the T7100 could not do, is being done on the D5800. There are busy times when we would experience a rush of students at our shops but we have been able to manage well with the D5800, as it offers great speed and saves us a lot of time,” says Ladhabhai Patel, owner of Millennium Xerox. According to Patel, low operational expenses is another highlight of the D5800. Besides, it can handle media with maximum width of 60 inches.
Andheri-based Edifice Technologies is the supplier of the D5800. Saumitra Trivedi, managing partner at Edifice Technologies, says that demand for the printer has soared after the relaunch of D5800 last year with added features.
“The USP of this product is low operational expenditure. Customers can use third-party ink from the very first day, which helps them save about 70–75% on the cost of consumables. The ink cost could be as low as Rs. 2 per litre. Also, for a copy shop like Mellinnium Xerox, it makes a lot of sense as it is a hybrid product, which does the job of both T7100 and 5100, making the copy house more productive,” Trivedi argues.
According to Trivedi, through the intelligent color layering technology in D5800, which is a 4-color printer, one gets results of a 6-color printer. Edifice has seen significant number of units being sold in the last two quarters. “We have sold 38 units of D5800 in the last two quarters. This is a significant number, which shows the popularity of the product,” he informs.
